AVC is Ab Urbe Condita, from the city founded, what the Romans used before AD, and, indeed, what the AD year is based upon.

CE means Common Era and is used instead of AD now.

CE stands for Common Era, BCE means Before Common Era. These are what I use in writing dates, but I have never heard of AVC.

Because not all countries and people are "Christian", using a Christian event as the dividing point in history was a problem in some scholastic circles. So while they kept the same "years", the changed the designation. AD is now CE (Common Era) and BC is now BCE (Before Common Era). Supposed to be more politically correct.

It's COMMON ERA and BEFORE COMMON ERA, which is the same as the old school ad and bc, but acceptable to everyone- NOT just Christians.
have no clue what avc stand for.

Science in an effort to create a "common" time with people who are not Christian have stopped using the B.C. and A.D. and now use C.E. (common era) and B.C.E. (before the common era).

As with the others, I just researched and can find no mention of AVC in connection with calendaring. While it can have numerous acronyms, the most common appears to be Advanced Video Coding.

CE is the "politically correct" version of AD.. CE - Common Era - not focused on Jesus' death even though the dating is the same, AD - After Death - Jesus' death..

I am not sure what AVC is..
