From a personal point i agree. Sum person said that 'No book has been used to justify more violence or hatred than the bible'. I kind of find that offensive and disagree. There are a lot of people of different religions who use their religions as a means for violence and hatred.Jesus taught christians that violence is wrong and to love one another. Unfortunately as i have said before, some people change the sayings of the holy book to suit their purposes

Bacon, whom many scholars believe to be Shakespeare, is right as usual. The Bible equates a society's well-being with the good will of its leaders. Without that essential good will, even the best forms of government become de facto tyrannies; and the public turns cruelly cynical.

Bacon was a scientist that invented method logy, and believed : there is power in knowledge" we paraphrase the quote ' knowledge is power" But, I believe the Bible is for our benefit, dietary wise, laws that protect us individually & collectively, how to treat the land, and how we are to love one another and forgive one another. So, yes I would agree the Bible is a roadmap to the way to live, and the way to eternal life in Christ. It is mans theology that corrupts, not God's Holy Word!

My favorite for famous people talking about the Bible is the line by Mark Twain: Its not the parts of the Bible I don't understand that bother me, its the part I do."

(And yes I agree with Bacon's view)

Yes!
I agree!
The Prophet's insistence on justice even for widows, orphans and outcasts, and their unhesitating censure of wicked kings even at the risk of their own lives is striking in any age, but particularly so when compared with contemporary ancient religions, which were state run and state endorsing. And that's not even mentioning Jesus...

I think that we could refine the Bible down to some very good ideas and principles. But on a whole, no I don't agree with Bacon.

Disagree, and I would point out that no book, in the history of life on earth, has been used to justifty more violence and hatred than the one in question. Kind of the opposite of exaulting the public good, in my opinion.
