I've heard a few times on movies and things, that nuns are "married" to Jesus. Is this correct? I don't mean to bash, I just want to understand better. Thanks

Patrone: So if I understand you right, it's not that each nun is married to Jesus, but as part of the Catholic church they are with the rest of it's members. Would saying that nuns are married to Jesus be like saying I'm married to my wife's fingers?

Zalem: I just wanted to understand better. I never intended to mock. I'm sorry if my question came off that way.

Religious sisters are not really married to Jesus but the phrase does reflect their total dedication to God.

The religious state is thus one way of experiencing a "more intimate" consecration, rooted in Baptism and dedicated totally to God.

In the consecrated life, Christ's faithful, moved by the Holy Spirit, propose to follow Christ more nearly, to give themselves to God who is loved above all and, pursuing the perfection of charity in the service of the Kingdom, to signify and proclaim in the Church the glory of the world to come.

There are actually more religious sisters (776,269) in the world than priests (405,450), deacons (31,524), and religious brothers (54,620) put together.

why don't you find a better question to ask? when nuns have dedicated their love to God and Jesus, this is marriage to the holy spirit and Jesus. They are bound to Jesus and only Jesus. You don't have to take everything literal, ok. there is something called symbolism. Although I am atheist, I hate to see such questions that are only to mock.

I've heard that but since I'm not Catholic it doesn't make sense. I have noticed that nuns will wear a small gold band on their wedding ring finger.

That's their business and it doesn't matter to me what they believe.

our LORD Jesus Christ is the bridegroom and the whole Roman Catholic Church is his bride. In Holy Communion, we believe that Jesus Christ literally gives body, blood, soul, and divinity in the consecrated host and wine to his bride, the Church. In return, us Catholics give ourselves back to Christ. Therefore, we become one flesh in order to bear fruit-which is grace, rightousness, sins are forgiven, etc.

In the same way, a married couple become one flesh and give themselves to eachother in order to bear fruit, which are love and children. God bless.

Yes, in a way you are right. The Bible tells us that we are Christ's bride. He is our groom and we are going to a wedding in heaven. This is all a picture of the happiness and glory that we are promised as believers.
