My husband and I need a new oven. We aren't professional cooks by any means but he is convinced we need a convection oven because they bake more evenly. Are they really worth the extra money? Don't regular ovens bake plenty evenly for a couple who only bakes about once every other month... and when that occurs it's always something that's coming from a box? Thanks in advance for the advice....

I would recommend a convection oven over a standard one any day! I have one and it was well worth the money. I am not a professional, but I do use it a lot.
They cook more evenly when cooking large batches of things (cookies and such) and cook much faster, at a lower temperature when you are cooking single dishes.
They also help get things nice and crispy outside, but hot and cooked all the way through without letting whatever you are cooking burst open, or overcook (things like pizza rolls, and other stuffed treats)

Yes, they are worth it.
The cook more evenly, and cook quicker. Also think if you have to sell your home-- a convection oven will be a nice asset.

If you are not using it on a regular basis and just once a month...not worth the money. I find that a regular oven works perfectly fine. My baked goods turn out evenly, try rotating your food while it is baking.
