David's Bridal has their $99 dress sale several times a year, and if you get there early, you can get a GREAT dress! I got my dress at that sale - it was a gorgeous, Oleg Cassini dress that was originally $900, and I got a TON of compliments on it.

Also, as strange as this sounds, look at department stores at their prom dresses. I went to a med school formal a few months ago, and one girl was wearing a prom dress that looked EXACTLY like some of the wedding dresses at the top bridal boutiques. It even had a (very) slight train in the back. You obviously won't get a wedding dress with a long train, but there are a lot of very pretty white prom dresses out there that look like wedding dresses for a fraction of the price.

Alfred Angelo. I bought mine for $470 (Destinational Wedding gown). Sometimes they have sales going on. Which I got mine for $100 less than original price.

Ladie's and Gents is another store, along with David's Bridal.

Also attend a few Bridal Fashion Shows. They give away free trips and gowns. You can be one of the lucky winners.

There is events, just recently in New York and L.A, where bridal shops would do an open event where a person can get any dress off the rack for free or extremly low price (75% off) deals. Even though you be with some bridzillas, but can get a free dress out of it to either wear or sell to buy one you want.

When going into some thrift shops and goodwill, I sometimes will come across some beautiful wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses. Some still have original tags on them. I saw this one bridesmaids dress with original tag of $149.00 and it was tagged at the thrift shop for $30! So hey, bargin stores is the best sometimes. No one would know the difference.

Go shopping for dresses at department stores after Christmas.

You could check out second hand stores. Check Craigs list.
Do you sew at all? You could take a dress or two and make some changes. Do you know someone who sews?

How stable is your weight? Since you have a year and are on a tight budget, you should start looking now.

How cheap is cheap? You could go to Thailand and have a very nice one custom made for very little money. You'd have to figure in the cost of the plane ticket round trip. So if cheap is less than the cost of a plane ticket and hotel, etc, you'd be better off looking for a bargain locally.

But then if Cheap is that cheap .... just buy a nice evening dress and get married in Las Vegas or Atlantic City.

That way you can use the dress again later.... without getting a divorce.

I went to a local bridal shop thinking I would have to find hundreds of pounds to get the dress I really wanted but I was really surprised. My dress only cost £250 and the reason for this? It was actually a bridesmaids outfit (I didn't have white, I prefer to be original!) and therefore cost a lot less than a wedding dress. You can get lovely dresses at a fraction of the price if you look in the bridesmaid's section and of course, they can also come in white or ivory if you want to stick to traditional colours.

davids bridal has $99 dress sale but never any good ones at all mostly bridesmaid dresses they use this sale to get you in the door. becides they ruined my dress 3 days before my weding in alterations and had to replace it I dont recommend them at all. why dont you try the enternet or a little bridal shop. sometimes the litter bridal shops have good deals. also there are stores out there that have used dresses you can purchase at a good price. and you may even try searching little chapels. I know the chapel where I got married buys dresses and resells them.

Call local bridal shops and ask if/when they'll be having a sale to clear out the old dresses & make room for the new ones. Then arrive early that day to be first in line & get first pick!
Also, don't be afraid to try to negotiate prices.

http://www.zinniabridal.com/ this is an excellent site, beautiful dresses and very reasonable prices too (around £300). also try www.monsoon.co.uk or www.littlewoods.co.uk
don't rule out ebay though - i just bought my wedding dress on there - just check the sellers feedback before you buy and you shouldn't have any problems - paypal now offers payment protection of up to £500. i got the most beautiful dress for £150 including postage. the dress is brand new and shipped from china where it is handmade

i got my dress in the sale. it was reduced from 800 to 395.
Also a good idea is to try some dresses on get the names and put that name into google and they will come up cheaper. the first few i tried on i did this and managed to get them cheaper. Ebay is ok depending what you want.
But definately look in at wedding shop sale.
For my bridesmaids i looked at monsoon in there sale. they were reduced from 160 to 48 quid. Unfortunaltely we changed the colour so arent usig them anymore. Tesco i ended up getting mine from bridesmaids that is.
Or you could get the whole lot made. My friend got them made for half the price as to what you would normally pay.

good luck

I am hispanic and even though it was 6 years ago my quinceaneta dress was amazing and kind of looked like a wedding dress. I think we only paid about $80.00 dollars for it. So depending on where you live I would go to some hispanic stores.
