Can someone recommend a good digital camera for me. One with good quality, clear pictures (7 MP or above), that delivers good light under low lighting, also something that doesn't use up batteries so quickly. I don't want anything too pricey either. Looking for something under 200.

Plus what are the best brands of digital cameras out there?

I'll try to give some specific recommendations, but it's difficult because what you're looking for is very generic. Do you need lots of zoom for nature/wildlife photos? A certain size of LCD? More specific details will help to narrow things down.

"Best" camera brand is really subjective. The big dogs in the market are companies like Canon, Nikon, and Sony, but other companies like Fujifilm, Casio, and Panasonic are really breaking through with some high-value cameras.

Link 1 below is to a camera kit from my favorite online photo store to shop at. The camera kit has pretty much everything you would need: the camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS70), 2 1GB memory cards, a carrying pouch, and rechargeable batteries with a battery charger. It retails for $183, so probably around $190-195 with shipping, so it meets your price requirement.

The camera itself is 7.2 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, has Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization, incredibly useful in low light situations because it helps to compensate for camera shake and give you sharper pictures in low-light), and still records high-quality video. It also allows you to do advanced control of the exposure if you want to as well.

Also, since it uses AA batteries, you can use either the rechargeables that come with the camera or disposable ones, so if you're out on the town and your batteries die you can buy some Duracells until you can get home to recharge. All of this in a relatively compact form factor, too.

I know several people with cameras from this series, and one thing I noticed was that the shutter lag (time between when you press the button and when it actually takes) is much shorter than other cameras, which was a big problem for me until I upgraded to my dSLR.

Check out the link and see if that's what you're looking for. If not, tell us what you would change, and we can go from there.

I own a Fuji A820, which is 8 Megapixel, a Nikon D40 which is 6Megapixel.....both are superb, but the lens in front of the camera is what makes the picture. Good quality? I talked to several friends, and short of purchasing a Canon SE or the 5D or a Nikon D40...you have a really good digitla point and shoot with those Fuji's....And the A820, i bought for $159 at Target.

The A820 uses 2 AA cells and I get over a hundred pictures with 50 or so with flash off two AA cells. It takes less than 30 seconds to change them.

If you like, email me at waynocook53@yahoo.com with more questions if you need to....happy to help.

CANON

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras and learn as much as they can from the internet.
Go to the store and hold them and try them to see what they feel like and how they take pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

my suggestion
go to yahoo shopping
digital cameras
digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions

I suggest Fujifilm finePix F30. A subcompact that's 3X optical zoom, 6 megapixels. Through Amazon.com it's $180-
Has image stabilizer, manual controls in addition to auto and only 1 second delay between shots. Battery life is excellent.
PS best brands for around $200-are Fuji, Sony and Canon.
Check out Website dpreview.com for reviews and prices.

You should get the PENTAX Optio W30. Its slim, sleek, stylish, with 7 megapixels, has lots of features like a macro setting for pictures up to half an inch away! Plus its waterproof down to 10ft for 2 hours!!

I have had the PENTAX Optio W10 for a few years and I have never had ANY problems with it at all! It is such a great camera and I LOVE it!

It has TONS of features, VERY good picture quality, its sleek & stylish. And its waterproof! You can see the camera here: http://www.pentaximaging.com/products/pr...
I have had the PENTAX Optio W10 (a slighty older version) for a few years now and I absolutely LOVE it!

What you think is good may differ from others - there are many
uses and features desired in cameras. I was going to tell you
to look in CNET>COM for comparisons, but they sent me to the URL: http://www.popphoto.com/buyingguide/
I would suggest you find the camera line you would like to use and then use the model as a search on Google or Yahoo
for discount shops. I bought my last Olympus on Ebay from a dealer. Good luck - jon

Nikons seem to be good. I'm taking photography next semester and my soon to be Professor said Target had some really good deals.
