It's part history, and alot of fantasy. And it was written to control the minds and body of the people of that time. It's still being abused for that purpose. Come on, you really want to believe in talking snakes and 900 year old men ?

The bible is just another holy book --- this one of the Tribe of Israel... it is their lore, their fairy tales, their concerns. They were a starving bunch of shepherds living the the middle east... a rotten place to be 2000 years ago, and still is today, isn't it?
All tribes of people struggle to find the answers to why things happen--- especially ones that they cannot explain... it used to be that lightening was created by the gods or god, plagues, deaths, famine, locusts, diseases yadadyayda . Now we know what causes those things, but some people who can't understand something automatically say it is god's will They did then and some people do as well, today.. Some stories were changed, copied incorrectly, dropped or whatever, to form the book we have today..some were lost, or twisted in translations from Aramaic, Demonic, Latin, Greek etc. Later things were deleted that were unflattering to Jesus... the gospels of Thomas and Philip, for example, are not in the present Holy Book. Some scholars argue that jesus was more than one man.... Jesus was a common name then.....
If you look at the bible as an example of history of musings of this tribe, you are then putting it where it ought to be..... a collection of stories, not much different that those stories of Hittites, Assyrians, Egyptians and other tribes living at the same time, who also had holy books. Some of those stories are the same in all tribes.... they fought each other traded with each other, married each other and killed each other.... the Adam and Eve story comes directly from Babylon, the 10 commandments come from the 12 denials of Egypt, and precede Moses by some 1200 years. You may wish to read some history on the bible... Interesting stuff..

Let us pray:
Joshua 6:20-21 NLT
"When the people heard the sound of the horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the city from every side and captured it. They completely destroyed everything in it - men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep, donkeys - everything."
Exodus 32:26-29 NLT
"All of you who are on the LORD'S side come over here and join me" And they came and the inspired words are as follows:
"This is what the Lord , the God of Israel says: "Strap on your swords! Go back and forth from one end of the camp to the other, killing even your brothers, friends, and neighbors". After which Moses told the Levits, "Today you have been ordained for the service of the LORD for you obeyed him even thought it meant killing your own sons and brothers. ... etc"
Numbers 25:1-9 NLT
Kings 18:36-40 NLT
I am not inspired - I am ashamed . I could site many more passages of this book [holy?] but I believe you have the message. And, one more note on the subject, I have referenced only the Old Testament, the new is not much better, but the language that Jesus was suppose to speak was Aramaic, the bible was translated from Hebrew into Greek which was a very high end language along with Latin so the scribes probably changed everything they could to make the New Testament look good. Again, I am not inspired.

I have a hard time believing the bible isn't true. Why would men take such time and effort to keep "lies" and "untruths" alive by writing it down and keeping such record. Has anyone really read the precise directions by God in building the ark of the covenent or the precise plans for the temple? Whoever says the bible is all fairy tale isn't thinking it out properly. Anyone with a mind has to admit that at least parts of the bible (for sure) are historical FACTS. I believe in order to spend so much time and effort to write down and keep record of these books of the bible men HAD to be inspired by God. Why on earth would they do so otherwise?

There were 40 authors, they lived on three different continents and it was written over a period of 1500+ years. They all wrote and were inspired by the living God.
Almost 1/3 (32%) of the New Testament are quotes from the Old Testament. We know the Old Testament is true because Jesus said, "In the Scriptures, it is written..."
We know the New Testament is true because of the original manuscripts and outside sources that corriborate it. Two of the gospels were written by disciples/apostles. Not to mention other apostles that wrote epistles.
Way too much evidence to believe otherwise, at least for me. I've also seen miracles. I have great faith (trust) in the living God and in His timing, He will make all things known.
Peace and grace to you...

In the old Testament, all of the books are oral tradition that have been passed down generation to generation, until someone finally wrote it down, probably a Jew. The New Testament is explaining the life of Jesus and letters from some of the Apostles to different countries. Some of the later books are prophicies. In the early Church, the leaders sat down and began to compile these books that they felt were testaments to their faith, much like the Torah. Over time, books have been added and removed. I believe that God has influenced what books should stay and what books should go. So no one person wrote the Bible.

Many generations of rabbis and scholars wrote the Bible. I have no idea if it was divinely inspired or not, but it's been copied, edited and translated many times by imperfect human beings. I don't doubt some of the Bible is historically accurate...I just don't think the ENTIRE Bible is. Remember, in medievel times, Church-sponsored astronomers used the book of Joshua to "prove" the Sun revolved around the Earth. Doesn't sound very inspired to me.

The best way to explain this is to take a history school book. The things described in it did happen but not necessarily the way they are described. The bible is a history book.no more and no less.Written and rewritten over thousands of years,it is a history of people and their beliefs.
Some are fact and some are fiction. You must choose, That is called faith

Shakespeare wrote The King James Version of the Bible at the age of 46. The "evidence": Shake is the 46th word of the 46th Psalm, Spear is the 46th word from the end in the 46th Psalm.

the men were probably inspired more by power than by god. there is evidence but if you actually look at it you see something entirely different. there is many things the church doesn't tell you or exaggerates or tries to cover up. it depends all on your religion on what you believe and who to believe. can anyone really be sure what happened years ago, at that time things were past down as stories and then written down. Things change after time.? and if you actually study history from a neutral point of view your entire view can be changed. (sorry i'm jewish but i'm really crushing the church here, sorry)

Many people. Mathew wrote Mathew, John wrote John, Paul wrote lots of the books in the NT, etc.... Various prophets wrote the books of the OT.
In addition, the books in the NT were NOT written in the order they are in our current Bible. For example, the book of Revelations was written BEFORE the Gospel of John. The people that put the Bible together just put Revelations last.
These men were inspired! BTW, what's you point?
