Until the government enforces the laws against illegal immigrants and does its job, it should not be spying on people with satellites. Maybe we should launch a satellite to spy on the government and make sure that it is doing its job. Maybe we can catch some congressman or senator in bed with a teenager or George W. Bush beating his wife and it would be all in the interest of National Security. Or maybe we can catch them meeting with mobsters or making bad deals with foreign leaders? Whatever can be done to us can also be done by us and we're not stupid. Just because they can doesn't mean they should and we need to ensure that we watch the government as closely as it watches or proposes to watch us.

It's hard to defend, but I am afraid it is a sign of the times. For all the good technology can do, the down side is apart of the package. But then again when any government official, but especially the W administration says, We can give total assurance that Americans civil liberties be be protected, Americans should not have any concerns, it's time to say, "Check Please"

PS I know we should not just accept it, but other that bemoan the the facts what can we do other than rue the election of W. I did not vote for him either time, and even as the next election nears I see no one running that rectify the problem of using technology to erode our civil rights under the premise of keeping us safe.

If it's going to be for domestic use, then they have to get a warrant. Period. It doesn't mean anyone has to hand you the warrant before they use the sattelite, it just means that the judicial branch has to agree that there is probable cause to look. It's not really any different than the whole wiretapping thing, as long as law enforcement has a justifiable reason to listen, then I have no problems.

What ever the line they set for them selves , the government will break it. I use to work for the Feds, and they are not really concern about breaking the law, just the perception. I'm still trying to figure out why is it legal for google to have a satelite photo of our backyard, but it's illegal for police to find Marijuana farm using arial photos.
