My boyfriend is starting to get on my nerves! He is supposivly ALWAYS broke, so I pay for a lot of the stuff we do or we do nothing all of the time! But when he wants something for himself, he buys it! Or just out of no where, will come up with money to go drive around on his streetbike with! We did go to a Detroit Tiger's game last week, and he bought me a t-shirt, and a foam claw, and a hot dog (which was suprising). That is what kinda baffles me... is he just being cheap, or what? Maybe I was spoiled because the last ex paid for everything, and I maybe thought that is the way it goes... What do you guys think? I think I am gonna go up to the bar this weekend with my friends who can pay for their own stuff, rather than tagging him along and paying for his stuff. I am gonna be unemployed next month (contract worker) so he know I will definately not be shelling out the money then. I don't think he is using me, but what is the deal?

Sounds as tho he may be a cheapscape. People [who are employed] always have money to do a few things that they want to do. And they put money back for that purpose. I know I make personal monetary sacrifices to get certain things I really, really want. He ought to be more up front with you about his finances. I agree with you.....all the guys I ever dated always payed for everything, however, I think it is fine to help out with about 10% of the expenses, if he wants that.

You could be spoiled by the last guy. Are you 100% certain you're paying more than 50% of the dating expenses. I've dated women (very briefly) who as a rule would never bring money anywhere and would have been outraged at the thought that they should put a penny in a parking meter so I've definitely seen the other side of this.

People are going to climbing over each other to tell you to dump him but be certain what the real situation is and what you really want. Do you want someone to buy you? There's no argument at all that when a guy pays for everything you have been bought and paid for and you have willingly sold yourself to him.

There's no initial problem here, he's just a little careful with spending money. Maybe he thinks that everytime you go out, he'll have too much fun and spend more money than he's supposed to, or maybe he saves his money for special occasions rather than taking some everytime you both go out, not all guys are tradionalists and expect to pay.

You have to think that he DID take you to the game, and I'd see that as a treat, so next time you go out, bring your own money and go halves or pay yourself until you're out of work....then hopefully when you go out next time, you have a reason to be paid into things

Its best to try to keep it where you both pay for each other some of the time. If one person is always paying it makes them feel like they're renting their partner. Anyway, if the guy pretends he doesn't have money, but always seems to pull out money to buy what he wants, then hes just lying to you and hes probably a cheap skate.

I would stop paying for him and see what he would do. For example if you go to the movies go ahead of him and order your ticket and then see if he will pay for his and if he doesn't then you will know you should dump him and meet someone else. You don't need a cheap skate paying for everything.
