Come on guys, when one asks for Deli they mean a nice kosher deli with hot pastrami or some nice and fatty corned beef. Ben's on 38 th st between 7th ave and 8th ave. is one of the few fairly decent delis left in manhattan. The food served is your basic kosher deli (stuffed cabbage, kishka etc.) From Grand Central walk along 42nd st to times square (now renamed Disney World North) and walk a few blocks south on 7th to 38 st.

There are dozens of places to eat in and around Grand Central. Homefront deli is on 41st, Central Deli is on Vanderbilt by 42nd, next to a Tequilaville Mexican restaurant which is next to Modell's. There's and Italian deli on 45th just past Lex. The European Deli on 43rd or 44th, there's also 3 Subway's around Grand Central. A Wendy's, McD's, Sbarro's, A few pizza Places, a few Chinese, some Japanese, I think there is a Tandoori place too. These are all within a block or so of Grand Central / MetLife building. If you head a little further to 3rd there's even more. I can't think of all the places, there are too many.
I was just reminded that there is a Mendy's IN Grand Central in the food court on the lower level. Also a Two Boots Pizza, Brother Jimmy's, Junior's, etc.
I'm fairly sure you'll find something you like.

Apologies to you and NYC if my offerings were not the kosher Deli you were looking for. An excellent point on NYC's part (who i assume gave the thumbs down, sorry to disappoint) but I limted the "walking distance" to about 2 blocks from Grand Central assuming you were catching a train or something of that nature.

On 40th street just on the other side of Time Sq from Grand Central. The deli is just up the street from John's Pizza. They take Amex which was why I noticed them. Looked like a great place "local" place (not a chain) but I was on the way to Hard Rock and didn't go.

Sorry I can't help you more. If you have time walk around 40th and TSq. You will find it.

Good luck.
