Do you need to do anything before eating it? Like... peeling it? Are there any special things I have to know first? Is it like an apple where you can eat almost all of it or something?

A Mango is sweet when it just gives slightly to the touch when squeezed gently.
You can also smell it--but if you're not familiar with smelling mangoes--it's easy to pick an overripe one!

Many cultures eat mangoes green too...but that's another story :o)

It doesn't really have a core but it's all hard in the center. My friend, who's Brazillian, cuts the mango into 4 oval pieces so that there's a long core rectangle left. With each oval piece she then cuts vertical slices (not cutting through the skin) about 1 or 2 centimeters wide. Then she cuts horizontal slices about 1 or 2 centimeters wide. She then bends the mango so that the little squares protrude and she eats em.

Wow that took a long time to explain.

Don't peel.Put mango on a flat surface, large end down, with a sharp knife cut on either side of the pit. Slice each side with vertical and horizontal slits. Cut small chunks off skin...or just eat over the sink.

cut around the whole outside and give a twist to spit in half (like you would am avocado), then make slits in the fruit and push the skin sort of inside out. Take out your chunks.
