Everything above and
I like to eat a light snack before flying nothing too heavy no burgers or fried chicken. MMMMmmmmmm burgers
A light sandwich egg or chicken salad, maybe ham what ever. Heck as a 6'1" 259lb bald, fat, old white guy I've even been seen eating a fruit salad before the flight.
Also before and during the flight stay away from coffee, tea and booze, try to stick with water or juice to help this the dehydration.
Have a good trip.

Take some earplugs! Last flight I was on, I packed them in the luggage. I was sitting behind the Crazy Child Family. I thought I was going to jump out of the window while their 4 year old whined and cried from departure to arrival and then thur the whole airport. Then they tried to steal my luggage! But I digress. . . take earplugs, I don't know the proper name for them but something to cover your eyes, wash cloth to wet and refresh your face, Tylenol, chewing gum, candy, lots of stuff to read, cd player, ipod, cash in case you want to buy food/liquor/drinks, socks with foot pads because you'll want to stretch and walk around to avoid leg cramps & blood clots. Hope that helped. Jeez! Guess you're going to need to bigger carryon bag.

Drink lots of water. Bring your own very large bottle (purchased after going through security), as airline water can be iffy.
I always bring:
mp3 player
noise-canceling headphones
several inflatable pillows
footrest
eyeshades
books
moisturizer
saline nasal spray
comfy slippers with a rubber sole

I like the answers above.... Plus, I'd add POWDER. Baby Powder for your body, plus foot powder....
For me, this makes all the difference. (And, sometimes I wish the guy next to me would have done it)

Everything everybody else said, plus....
Be sure to get up and stretch your legs every few hours, at least.
