They range anywhere from $150 to thousands. Mossberg, Remington, New England, Benelli, and Browning are all goodshotgun makers and are in the price range of $250 to $700. A good starter gun is a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 Express. they are both good pump guns and will last a long time. And Shooter Mag, the 870 cant shoot a 3 1/2 inch shell, the biggest it shoots is a 3''.

Price depends on what you have in mind as far as type. There are several to choose from you can find your basic "break open" model for around $100.00 new. The break open model is OK for the beginner but not very practical for the active hunter. Given your question I'll assume you are just starting out , this in mind I would recommend the Mossburg 500 pump action , more bang for the buck and if I may say so a very fine firearm .Try your local gun shop you should find it available for around $200.00. And just to put it out there the only significant difference between a 12 ga. and a 20 ga. is the amount of shot being used , a 20 ga. has just as much power as a 12 ga.

For a classic English-style side-by-side you can look at some European-made guns in the $600 range, or you can have one made for about a hundred times that in a true English "best." That's why side-by-sides aren't as popular as they used to be. Over-and-unders are in the same price range.
You can find some single-shots for around $150, and pumps and autos are in between.
The main difference is in "pointability." and the fit of the stock is an extremely important factor as well. The right shotgun will come up naturally so you don't have to make adjustments to your aim.

there are many different possible answers to your question.
you have to decide what make you want; Remington, Winchester, mossberg, ruger, new England firearms, or marlin.
next you have to decide what action you want; single shot, double barrel, over under, pump, semi auto.
next, what would it be used for; hunting, shooting targets, or home defense.
i would only need to buy 3 shotguns, but i would use a 12 gauge.
a new England firearms single shot gun 3 inch chamber 28 inch barrel for small game. $120, a Remington model 870 express combo with a 26 inch shot shell barrel and 20 inch rifled slug barrel for waterfowl, turkey, and slugs for deer for $543. and a express synthetic 18" 4 2" 3/4' chamber for home defense for $359.
i don't like 20 gauges, i advise you to get a 12 gauge.

You can purchase a NEF singleshot at most Wal-Marts in my area for 79 dollars. A decent starting pump can be had for around 189 new for a mossberg 500, to 250 or so for a remington. (sometimes can find them at different gunstores on sale for around 150). Double Barrels fromcopanies like traditions will set you back 500 or so, I paid 800 for a ruger red label. After that, fine double-guns from companies like Merkel can set you back as much as 10,000 or more.
If you are looking for a rifled slug gun in 20g, add about 150 bucks to the above base prices across the board.

Like with any other product, it depends on the brand and type. You can find really cheap, single-shot shotguns for just over $100.00. If you want to go all-out, you could be spending hundreds.
