Is God not speaking to us any more? Or is it that we know we would be fooling ourselves adding more under the pretense that "God is speaking to us". When was it that someone suddenly said "There, its finally finished"? Or did God say, "Read that last bit out to me.......You know, I think its all finished, lets hope it doesn't get taken out of context eh, skin up will you" Im sorry for the mocking tones, but if an argument is so ridiculous the only course of action I see is to mock. But anyway, mocking aside, why hasn't there been any recent additions?

For a start a lot of the Bible was not written knowingly as "The Bible" much of it is letters from Christians who have been thrown into jail by the romans for "Challenging the state" or basically having a religion which the Emporer did not recognise. A lot of it is not actually "God spoke to me" type stuff it is historical notes of ppls experiences that people find inspiring. As as for why hasnt any more been added can you imagine anyone letting them? even if they swore on their life that God had spoken to them and it was true? I dont think they would be allowed!!!!!!!!
I am a Christian by the way but I was thinking only the other day how weird it is that we rely on the Bible I do believe in it but I think that there are SO MANY other ways God can talk to us. For some people the Bible suits but for others they need more direct experience. I chose to believe based on an experience I had not because of the book I read. I chose to believe in God and then the Bible followed even now I still hear his voice more through quotes and experience than just sitting down studying. I didnt just pick up the Bible one day and decide I agreed with everything in it.

God is supposed to be an unchangeable being - the same yesterday, today, and forever.

The way he spoke to prophets of old and people is through "revelation", which means to reveal. That's the line of communication between us and God that everyone can receive if they're listening. But, God has a certain order of receiving revelation. You cannot receive revelation for someone else - only for yourself and those you're responsible for, like your family. You cannot receive revelation for another family or Church leader. That's how you can tell false revelation. Now, if God wanted His people to know something, He would tell His chosen leaders, or prophets (for they are responsible for the whole world, all of God's children). Amos 3:7 says that "Surely the Lord God would do nothing except he revealeth his secrets unto his servants the prophets." He's not just going to tell anyone. That goes for today as well. Why would God go for years talking to prophets and then suddenly stop. That would say that He is changes and lies ("same yesterday, today, and forever"). But, God does not lie and He doesn't change. That would mean that He has prophets that He speaks to today.

Ephesians 2:20 says that Christ's body, or Church, is built upon a foundation of prophets and apostles, Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone. And what happens to any building when you take away that foundation? It collapses and has no hold. It doesn't survive. That's how important that foundation is, especially Christ. In 1 Corinthians 12:28, the first things Christ did to set up His Church was to set up 1st Apostles, 2nd Prophets, 3rd Teachers, etc... Why apostles first? See Ephesians 4:11-15. In verse 12 it says the reason for the apostles, etc... is to help perfect the saints and edifying the body (or whole Church) of Christ. For how long are we to have apostles, etc...? In verse 13 it says "till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ". Has that happened already? Has the whole world come into the unity and knowledge of Christ? No it hasn't, which is why Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, etc... still needs to be here today. They were the ones that received revelation. And what is scripture? Revelation given to these prophets and apostles. They were the ones that straightened out the false teachings and doctrines for the world (see verse 14).

There is so much confusion today. Which is even more the reason why we need such men of God today. There's alot that we need to know and that needs to be done before His return. And who will He reveal that information to? His Apostles and Prophets. I hope this helps...

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth His secrets unto His servants the prophets.

I believe that God has again called prophets in our day. In 1820, Joseph Smith was visited by God the Father and Jesus Christ. Through this and other experiences, Joseph was called as a prophet and directed to establish the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Since this time there have been prophets and apostles on the Earth.

There is more scripture than contained in the Bible. I believe the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price all to be the Word of God. As well as the monthly messages of the prophets contained in the Ensign magazine that is published by the church.

its a shame people have taken the rich and deep mythology and have mistaken it for history. They miss the point and you miss the point of what Metaphor is suposed to do. Allow one to use the symbols to move them out of themselves.THis is not limited to the Bible but all cultures. It is when we are moved out of ourselves and into the place all humanity shares then that is the place God or whatever name you use for the trancendent thats where God speaks.

I think you are right God isnt finished for the most part the bible of the past no longer touches the heart first. The metaphors are for a differant time. Then when what you have only hits the brain, when new messages arrive they are answered with fear. People retreat into the old time religion. Then you get fundementalists and people who actualy think there was flood. Its darkest before the dawn.
The new Mythology is being formed now. Revalations it happened in india before Budda it happened in Jerusalum before Jesus it happend in Europe to the old pagan preists.
Its happening now. The fundementalist DOnt like it.

Because the truths about God in the Bible are good enough for us to come to know Him intimately and to receive everlasting life. Jesus said at John 17:17 that God's Word is truth. And in that same chapter, but in verse 3, he says we must take in knowledge of God and Jesus to receive everlasting life.

But you'll be happy to know that the Bible says that there is a time in the future where we will get new information. Revelation 20:12 says new scrolls will be opened!
This is during Jesus' 1000 year reign. So if you want to know what that will be, study the Bible now.

1st Timothy 3:16,17 says the whole Bible is beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, and for disciplining in righteous so that true Christians will be fully equipped to do God's will.

When Jesus died on that cross and said, "It is finished"...that meant the plan for salvation was finished... He called Paul as an apostle to the Gentiles, so they would know that salvation was for them also...He called John to tell us about the end time and what to expect....Revelations means the last revelations of Jesus Christ....we know what we need to know.

We did need a Mohamed or a Joseph Smith to finish any work or write any thing more. It was done.

I know God still speaks to individuals today but not pertaining to salvation. The night I received the Holy Ghost, he spoke to me. Do I care if you believe that? Yes, but it wouldn't change a thing if you did or not. I think in the end times as they come closer,,,,we will see an increase in visions, dreams and prophesy.

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.” Acts 2:17-18

The reason that there are no other additions to the bible is because God has fully revealed Himself through the scriptures. What more does He need to say to a rebelious mankind who rejects Him and the bible? But people don't understand this because they reject the truth of what God has already said about Himself and the world around us. People have placed their own fallible intellect and science ahead of the wisdom of God. Don't get me wrong, God gave us the ability to discover this world through science so I'm good with that. However, science should not be praised or made the highest of all wisdom like God (idolatry). Once a person has heard the Gospel and accept Jesus Christ, Jesus promised to send a comforter in the Holy Spirit. Once a person has the Holy Spirit of God living within their hearts then God through His Spirit reveals Himself to the believer. I can't tell you how many things I've learned from God about Himself, myself, and the world around me since receiving Christ and reading the bible with Holy Spirit improved eyes, heart, and mind. Its been an amazing journey thus far!

People after the Old Testament said the same thing, and then God spoke again in the New Testament. The next time, you will not only speak to God, you are going to see him face to face. So I'd watch what you say.

People laughed at the Old Testament for saying a messiah was going to come from Bethlehem.

Guess who appeared 1950 years later?

You guessed it! Y'shua of Nazereth.

Too bad those people did not witness the coming of Jesus.

First you need to understand that in 2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
“All Scripture,” what is written in the Bible, “is God-breathed.” “God-breathed” points to God as the source of the words. In order to speak, you have to breathe. This verse is saying that all the words written in the Bible came from God—He “breathed” them out. In other words, no man or group of men was the source of Scripture. No man sat down with a paper and pen and said, “I’ve got some great insight and a good story, and I’m going to write part of the Bible.” The testimony of the Bible is that God is its source.
Then Look at this scripture that tells us 2 Peter 1:20 and 21
(20) Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation.
(21) For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
“prophecy,” as the word is used in the Bible, does not always mean foretelling the future. The word “prophecy” also refers to the declaration of past or current events and the details of those events. Whenever God gives information to someone and that person speaks it, that is prophecy.
Not only is there no proof the Bible was passed down by word of mouth from generation to generation before it was written, there is evidence to the contrary. It is obvious that people who lived at the time the Bible was written thought Moses, David, Daniel, etc., were writing the words of God. No one carefully preserves and passes down the word of a lunatic or liar, which is exactly what the authors of the Bible would be had they claimed God was speaking to them when He was not. The fact that the books of the Bible were carefully preserved and passed down from one generation to the next shows that the people who lived when they were written recognized those documents as being true and valuable. There is no indication the people alive at the time of Moses doubted that God spoke to him. This is why the books of Moses were very carefully preserved as the Word of God.
The Bible makes many claims: claims about its author, God; claims about the men who wrote what God said; claims about events such as the walls of Jericho falling down; claims about salvation and how to obtain everlasting life; and claims about the future and how things will be at the end of this world. If these claims are not true or are exaggerations of what really happened, what is left to believe? That the Bible is a book with some nice proverbs and a few insightful parables and stimulating stories? That is not very satisfying or comforting, and it does not make the hard work of learning the Bible even worthwhile. If, on the other hand, the Bible is the Word of God as it claims to be, then it is worth studying, learning, and obeying. If the Bible is in fact the Word of God, then the critics are doing mankind a huge disservice by causing people to doubt it, and they will have to account for this “...on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ...” (Rom. 2:16).

after God reveiled the words of the Bible He saw that people were not following what He had ordered them to do and so He made new revilations to the last prophet[Muhammad]which is the holy Quran, now the reason why there have been no more additions is because to start with the Bible has been changed by men so much threw the years how can you honestly say that its the word of God?how can you be sure what is true or made up?you cant and because the Bible was changed so much God knew that His message would be lost and so He reveiled His last order to Muhammad in the form of the holy Quran.the Quran is the last addition,it is what God wants us to do and the fact that is was reveiled thousands of years ago means absolutly nothing.its as strong today as it was when it was reveiled to Muhammad, but people refuse it because they dont want to have to change theire lives to suit God.its easy to do bad and drink and be selfish, but its more rewarding in the long run to follow what God has asked of us.God loves us he sent these words to help us do good,to seperate good people from evil people,go to an Islamic shop and get a dvd called pray as you have seen me pray, and than you will see what i mean.by doing what God has asked of us we are also purifing our hearts, minds, bodys and of course our souls.think about it.
