Where can I volunteer to go help in disaster areas like New Orleans or the recently hit Lima, Peru? I have no money to travel with, but want to know how to volunteer and how that works.

Start by contacting the Red Cross ~~ Salvation Army ~~
You can call local Chamber of Commerce they may be of some help also ~~ Just don't give up trying to help ~~Good Luck~~

American Red Cross offers FREE training. Contact your local chapter. I have taken 34 courses and have traveled many times to disaster affected areas. Once you are trained, you can become a national volunteer. We each choose what area or specialty we are interested in serving. I love client casework, but also sheltering and feeding. When you are called, you usually have 24 hours to deploy, you must accept assignments of a minimum of 21 days, your airfare is paid, some accommodation for a place for you to stay, and you get a small stipend for food, gas (if you are driving a vehicle) laundry, etc. You don't need to spend your own money, you may have to purchase a sleeping bag, etc. Do it! You will learn SO MUCH about yourself and others. You will be greatly rewarded in personal terms for your assistance.

Go to the network for good and click on volunteer. You will find places and tips on how to volunteer wisely.

Well im from peru and i want to go too. Although my family is fine i want to help out my country.I contacted the red cross but i havent heard anything yet so, if you hear anything contact me too
