No, none of that hurts. The puff of air is uncomfortable, surprising and unpleasant, but it doesn't hurt. It is a glaucoma test--I'm not sure whether everyone gets it or just adults. The drops for contacts don't hurt at all--they are very similar to tears. Part of the exam (any exam, not just contacts) may be to look at your retina, which would require the eyes to be dialated--this is annoying because your pupils stay wide open, so you need sunglasses to get home and probably want to stay indoors until it wears off--but it doesn't hurt, it just makes bright light really annoying.

You'll be fine. A lot of people are funny about touching their eyes or letting someone else do it. Once you get contact lenses, you'll get used to it. The only time contacts hurt is when you get some dirt on them or something. Most of the time you don't feel them at all.

The puff of air is not painful, but it always makes me jump because of the noise of the machine.
now if you are just getting fitted for contacts you have probably already had the eye exam and it wont be repeated. (That test looks at the pressure in your eyes. It is a test for glaucoma which can rob people of there eyesight if untreated. It is more common in the elderly and in diabetics but all persosn should have it tested with there yearly eye exam.)

Now it may take a bit to get used to but actually placing the contact on the eye does not hurt, though depending on the contact you may feel like you have a hair in your eye.

No. Tell them up front you want to put them in yourself and they will let you. It may take you a long, long time the first time -- it did me. It does not "hurt". Follow the directions about the contacts very carefully about how much to wear and how to clean them and you'll be fine.

The tiny puff of air is to see if you have glocouma -- a condition some people do not even know they have that causes blindness. The tiny puff of air needed to test for it does not hurt. It sees how your eye reacts to the puff of air thus telling the doctor if there is pressure behind the eyes or glocouma.

You'll be just fine and glad you did these things for yourself.

I have been wearing contact lenses since I was 12. I don't remember it ever being painful. They are sometime uncomfortable at first until you get use to them but never painful. They don't always put drops in your eyes. The drops do not hurt either. Your pupils just dilate and maybe you can't drive for a little while because you are a little dizzy. Only for like an hour tops. That is just my personal experience it is always different for everybody. I hope this helped. Good Luck with your contacts!

I recently got contacts. My eye doctor did the air puff thing, and then gave me an eye exam. Two weeks later, I had an appointment in which the doctor gave me the lenses and insturcted me how to put them in, take them out, and take care of them. It takes a little getting used to, but it is way better than wearing glasses!!

No, it doesn't hurt. I think the biggest problem you will have is trying to keep your eye open for the fitting itself. They may use some drops to help but it will go smoothly and you will get used to the contacts in a few hours or less.

no it doesnt hurt. my advice to you though is always read the label before putting your eye drops in. One morning i woke up and put the cleaning solution drops in my eyes instead of the eye drops. Not good!
