Basically, yeah. Certain Christians love to say that "atheist evolutionists" (or whatever the hackneyed term of "abuse") don't have an ultimate explanation for the origin of things (in part because of their own incapacity to understand scientific research). Their explanation? "God did it." Unfortunately, that fails to satisfy people who are actually concerned with finding out the truth.

I can guarantee you I have no lack of scientific knowledge. I am currently working on a PhD in biology. But the complexity argument is valid. If you have studied biology much at all you will know how incredibly complex the processes in our bodies are. If they are off just slightly we will not live. It is to my mind incredible to think that all of this complexity is merely the result of a cosmic accident and a series of beneficial mutations.
Most mutations are deleterious. They hurt the organism with the mutation. Cancer is an example of this. Think of the innumerable mutations it would take to go from a single celled organism to humans. It is just incomprehensible. When you consider that a mutation would both have to be beneficial and be propagated through the species. It just does not make sense.
Also evolution has many gaps. The fossil record is used to show evolution but there are so many gaps in it that it is not funny. Why are there not distinct and continuous stages throughout time? As I read recently scientist use fossils to make guesses about the past and what happened then. They then tell the one who was there and who saw it all He is wrong. Amazing.
Also just to add to this. Scientists today are arguing evolution is true. Have you ever looked at the history of science? Things that were fact in science 50 years ago are now laughed at. I mean this literally. When we teach them the class laughs. Who is to say that in 50 years when we mention evolution in a classroom that it will not be laughed at?

That is not the mindset of all Theists. It isn't even the mindset of all Christians (Theists and Christians are not interchangeable like that... Christians are Theists, but so are Muslims, Jews, Pagans....) I've noticed that the whole Creationism group is really rather small in members... they have just been blessed with really big mouths. Most people that I know personally believe in evolution, as evolution only states how life has grown on this planet (it does not, however, tell you where the materical came from to begin with). Only extremists go so far with it to state what Creationists state. It's the real nutjobs who create museums to show the entire world just how "smart" they really are.

Since the Catholic church was formed, the top guns got into the stance of being the authoritative voice, and last word on any topic. They were acting like the god in being all knowing and seeing. Any conflicting opinion was quickly squashed as in the case of Galileo.
Science shattered that image in disproving the flat earth, and sun revolving around the earth. It is undermining the Authoritative voice. They no like that. Therefore science became their enemy and they've been trying to do damage control ever since.

It's not contrite, and it's not even contempt. It's simply the recognition that a) science doesn't answer everything, and is frequently wrong anyway, and b) evolution flies in the face of the REAL laws of Statistics AND Thermodynamics. Note that the UNIVERSE is indeed a closed system, by definition.

Creationists believe that God created the universe not because it is too complex to have just happened, but because we have faith in God and in the truth of the Bible, Pentateuch or whatever religious writing containing the Creation story to which we adhere. Scientists can continue to try to explain how this or that happened, but all creation will still be atributed back to the power and sovreignty of God by people of faith. Without faith however I know this concept is impossible for some to understand.

A) Get your definitions straight. A theist is anyone who believes in a Supreme Being. That leaves a lot of latitude.
B) I am a theist. I do NOT accept "creationism" as the sole explanation for the universe and all its glories.
C) Absolute generalization is generally the refuge of the ill-informed, the uneducated or the just plain obtuse. Which are you?

The level of scientific ignorance in our schools and congregations is breathtaking.
Which is why I've been supplementing my son's education in science from Day 1.
