"If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; ..." Duteronomy 22:23,24

Jeeeesus Christ! Apparently some of these above answers are completely unaware of what it is like to be raped. DId it ever occur to you that rapist put their hand over the victims mouth, that victims are in a state of shock and cannot scream, that some are even knocked unconscious, and usually threaten with their life, "If you scream I'll kill ya" You try stopping a creature who is twice your size! Assault is terrifying to a woman, the screaming comes afterwards - for the rest of her life.
Apparently this verse was written by an ignorant man! Just another way to blame the woman.

Blessed Be

You're an idiot. I am not even Christian any longer and I know you are being deceitful in holding back the following verses AND misinterpreting the verses posted.

That verse if referring to a woman who committed adultery, was a willing participant.

22:25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die.

At least don't lie or do a better job at telling a lie if you're going to do it.

MOONDOWN, you just showed your ignorance by not investigating this insane claim of the questioner and believing him.

It was more likely consensual sex, not an assault, so they were committing adultery. And to be accurate, we don't follow the law of the Old Testament anymore because God sent Jesus to die for our sins, and now we have the promise of eternal life. THIS is my God, and He's not just a concept.

i see no one has answered your question yet, probably cos its a bit hard to understand, not to mention ridiculas.im a kind hearted soul and so please dont take offence by my comment.God is fair and just,He does not promote anything evil, bad, corrupt,or anything that resembles hatred or injustice.im assuming you know the difference between good and evil, therefor to say that God would wrongly condem someone to be punished who was innocent and who done no wrong deed on thiere half is as wrong and as utterly ridiculas as saying the sky is green and the grass is blue.you want to know truth?you want to know the meaning of God and of our purpose on this earth?than read the holyQuran.no other source will explain it better,no other source is more trustworthy.

I think the assumption made is that if she did not cry for help while being raped then she was probably not being raped but was instead a willing participant. If you continue reading you will find that this requirement is dropped if the rape occurs in the country where no one is around to hear her.

This is saying the virgin did not attempt to stop the man from raping her. Therefore she will be punished, and the penalty of sin is death. She sinned, and the Bible says to remove sinners from your society.
