I think it was Walt Disney who first came up with the idea of giving characters four fingers instead of five. It saved the artists time and therefore cost less money to produce a cartoon.

5 looks funny, there's no better way to say it.
If you are talented in art try to make 5 fingers look good, it won't, it's bulky and it brings too much attention to the hands. Or ask someone to draw it for you if you are not a good artist.

because of the fact they dont want the characters to seem so human, and its lots extra straightforward to animate 4 than 5, it takes months to do an episode because it is, a million extra advantageous finger on each character might take a lil longer :p

Probably because it's harder to draw five fingers. Walt Disney started it all, so maybe they copied him.

Maybe they do that so they won't have a middle finger......actually they still would have one, so i don't really know.
