Years ago I had been given a recipe for cupcakes that were made from scratch. I remember that they contained chocolate chips and something else that when baked came to the top and formed their own frosting. Have any of you ever heard of these, and if so, does anyone have a recipe they could share?

The ones I had did not have cream cheese in them, but I believe they might have had nuts along with the chocolate chips. I think they might have been called chocolate surprise or something

This isn't cupcakes, but maybe your recipe was very similar and justed baked in a muffin pan.

BAKED FUDGE DESSERT

3 Tbs. shortening (Crisco)
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar. Add dry ingredients and milk. Add nuts. Pour into ungreased 9" square pan.

Mix and cover batter with:
1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup brown sugar

Put on middle oven rack, then add 1 cup boiling water. Bake at 375 F for 40 minutes. Serve hot/warm with ice cream.

PS: Any leftovers reheat well in the microwave.
