What do you mean by "flipout"?

Long answer but I've Had a lot of Beagles

She is probably a little too young to be coming into heat, but some dogs do come in heat earlier that the rest.
Most likely you gave the key word when you said beagle pup. Beagles are hunting dogs. They are high energy dogs as a result. She might be howling at something she hears or sees like squrriels, racoons, cats, (house or bobcat) wild hogs, deer, other dogs coyotes, etc. That is one possiblity.
The other possibilities are:
They are also highly social dogs being pack type hunters and don't like being alone.
If by flipping out you mean that you have her in the yard or pen by herself and she is howling you are going to have two choices.
Either listen to her howling all night because she is lonely,.
or :
Bring her inside and let her stay in the house with you at night.
Well there is a third option as well:
Third option is you can get another Beagle and put in the yard with her so she will not be alone.
You have to keep in mind about those things. Those flopping ears ain't for nothing. They have some kind of hearing. She could be hearing another Beagle or coyote howling so far away that the sensitivist instruments can't pick it up. And she could be howling back answering.
Hey they are good dogs but they are country dogs and if you are going to hunt her don't succome to this getting her fixed thing because that will ruin her as a hunting dog. Just have to watch her when she comes in heat. Made that mistake once.
But then where I live at had no problem finding homes for their puppies. Puppies won't last two days at the VET's. If took them to VET's in morning to have them wormed people would already be claiming them by that afternoon.

They are good dogs all around. Not only good hunting dogs but good watch dogs as well. Sometimes so good they get aggervating. Like when you are working nights and you have to get up get dressed so the meter man can get out of his truck to read the meter.

Hope that helps. Hey if you like listening to her howl let her howl. Nothing prettier sounding can listen to them howling all night long myself personally.

If she's only 4 months old I would say she's NOT in heat. At night, is she by herself? She may want to have company during the night, like her bed in your room. Beagle's are hunting dogs, the urge to hunt may be a factor. About a half hour before dark get her outside, walk or jog and play up a storm with her, get her tired, see if that makes her content to go in and sleep.

No -its really too early for a heat. She should be spayed at 5-6 months of age to keep her from getting her first heat. This will pretty much illiminate the possibility of cancer in the mammory glands.

Have you tried crating at night? Is the puppy getting a good long tiring walk - maybe it just has too much energy from being cooped up all day!

All pups get upset because they miss their parents. at night, put a clock next to your dog because the ticking reminds her of her mother. this will calm her down. also, comfort her.

THis is normal for dogs. especially beagles. they howl at night for many reasons, partially because thats just what beagles do. but hopefully the clock will help her.

good luck : )

I would doubt that she is in heat @ 4 months.

It is quite common for a Beagle to burn off a burst of energy just before going to bed.

Normally a first season is around 5-7 months.

puppies sometimes just go crazy. a great thing i found to calm mine down was a hot water bottle, and a cheap ticking clock. wrap them up in a blanket, and it feels, and sounds like their mum. it worked a treat and let me finally get some sleep!

She could have seperation anxiety, or just hate the crate. If she sleeps alone, she deffinately has seperation enxiety, if not, she may hate the crate.
