People are always talking about detoxing and "cleansing" the body to rid it of fat and toxins.

It gets harder to shed a few pounds as you age...that drives me crazy...I could melt off pounds like nothing when I was younger...so what happened?

I just wondered if there is some kind of diet or way of eating that would really help detox your insides as well as use up those fat deposits which are getting way too comfy in there. LOL

And I do eat well and drink lots of water...nothing seems to want to work anymore...

Well silverbullet that's the problem. See I had a bad back at 20 and it's even worse now at 48. Diet worked for me in the past and women and men are different too....my hubby is a beanpole. Kids and hormones play wicked games on women's bodies and sometimes nothing you do seems to help, so just wondered if a way of eating works for women at this age. Exercise is there but as to it's intensity and type, it is limited to basically walking, biking and swimming and ok dancing too...*S*

"Detox your insides"!?!?!

Exactly what do you think is in there? Unless you're constipated, "Cleansing" and "Detoxing" are pointless and possibly dangerous fads.

As for aging, I find the same things work that worked when I was 20. Most people simply aren't as active. It has nothing to do with aging or anything else. Use it or lose it.

The only things I find different at 54 is I can't do sprints and high intensity stuff as often. All the long distance fatburning workouts are about the same.

I'll give you the hormones, since I have no first hand experience. As for exercise, you've still got swimming and biking and you can burn a ton of calories with either or both. Fat is stored fuel. You get rid of it by creating a calorie deficit. At 48, if you've let yourself get out of shape, your cardiovascular system may not deliver enough oxygen to burn significant calories. That is mostly fixable if you take the time and make the effort.

As for points of view on detox, its really pretty clear. On one side you have all the people with scientific and medical credentials saying its hogwash.

On the other side you have con artists trying to scam the softheaded with slick pitches, pseudo-scientific jargon and miracles in a pill or a bottle. Yes, there are heavy metals and other environmental poisons that concentrate in fat, but you can't get rid of them with herbs, patent medicines, or laxatives.

your metabolism has probably slowed considerably since your youth, which is why you can't shed weight as quickly.
there are several diets/detoxes to cleanse your colon, as uncomfortable as it sounds. there are colon cleansing pills and such, as well as a cranberry water detox thing.

here's a site listing several different diets that are considered detoxing diets: http://www.everydiet.org/detox_diet.htm

This worked for me and lots of people I know. I am 61 and lost 33 pounds and 44 inches in 3 months without exercising. I've kept it off and will continue to keep it off with a great maintenance program from Isagenix. Check out http://finkle.isagenix.com
