They may still be interested. Call them.

It would be wise to call into your Police Station and hand it in just in case because if it is
You could have helped solve a murder case
Even though it happened in the 1920's the case would have closure

the fact that you are asking shows you are concerned... theres valid reason for this... come on man you could be holding on to a murder weapon!!!!.. yes contact the police !!!you maybe hold a clue to solving a serious crime and you also could be effectively protecting a murderer by holding onto the weapon and doing nothing. dont be surprised if you get a knock on the door in a couple of days time if you do nothing, remember that these forums are monitored and you can be easily traced by the police...

Only modern forensics could prove that it is the murder weapon or not. Handle very carefully and place in a plastic bag then mark the spot with something, photograph scene on your digi cam, mobile phone or whatever and retire to nearest police station, leave the final decision to them

Why did you go searching with a metal detector? The police will think that you are withholding some kind of guilty secret. My advice to you is to let sleeping dogs lie, and forget all about it. After all it is nearly ninety years now, and nobody has worried about it.

Yes, of course they would be interested in the weapon, if that was what it is. I don't think they ever close files on a murder - mind you the murderer would be long dead by now presuming he didn't commit the act when he was 10!

Was the murder solved? Or is it still open? If it hasn't been solved, you'd definitely want to turn it into them. I have no idea if they could use it or not, but that's for them to decide.
Either way, I would think it would be best to simply go and ask them. Be careful with how you handle it, as it could be evidence.

I would say yes they would due to the fact that the staute of limitations never runs out on a murder case.

Yes, even very old crimes still need to be solved. Go to your local police station, and tell them your thoughts. They will allocate an officer just to see what comes up. It should be really interesting, so accept my bribe of one star to keep me informed of what happens.

Get in touch with your local paper and they might like to do an article on the murder, especially if it wasn't solved.

The file is never closed. It may not help but give the knife to them anyway if only to keep your yardarm clear
