I am in my late 40's, have been working a temp to perm job for a year, and have gotten no negative feedback in my performance - I am an expert in my field, and my boss has the means to hire me, but doesn't want to 'seal the deal' - every sign possible shows he's happy with my work.

They've hired several people in their 20's and 30's

How could I prove some type of discrimination ? In my state, it is illegal to record a conversation without the person's knowledge, so I can't tape him.

It maybe because they charge a large fee to hire you. Proving age discrimination is hard. I am 59 and if I had to look for a job again it would be harder than it was at 54 when I got this one but each company might not hire me for any reason and hire younger people but how do you prove why?
Some older people aren't hired because of skills or looks or because they are worth too much money it isn't always age. I didn't land some jobs when I was 30 either.

I'm 53 and work in a ( what used to be! ) skilled trade in the construction industry and have experienced the same thing, what it comes down to is why should they hire you when they can hire some twenty something or illegal at much less money, the fact that they have no training or experience at the job is irrelevant and that, among so many other things is what's going to kill this country, and the government couldn't care less about stopping it. You might try calling the ACLU, oh that's right they're usually busy defending the guys who are taking the jobs at which they have no training or experience. I
don't know how many stories ( other than mine ) I've heard of older employees who have worked at a company for many years who have just been up and fired simply so the company could hire someone younger that they could pay less.
