We have a scheduled tour of the White House on 8/30. We are driving from NY to DC so we need to park the car somewhere before getting in the tour. Please help.

If you're just coming into the city for the day, not passing through, stop at one of the northern metro stations and metro in---driving into DC is possible, but it's really not fun. If you can avoid it, do! It'll save you money, time, and hassle.

Otherwise, there are many pay parking garages all over the place in DC. Look for the signs on the buildings themselves, and sometimes at corners.

There are buses and trains that go between New York and DC. Unless you need your car for something else, I would recommend NOT driving. However, if you do, you can park at Glenmont on the Red Line and take the Metro to Metro Center.

You can park at New Carrolton (Orange Line) or Largo Town Center (Blue Line) and take the train to McPherson Squarem where there's a sign that indicates which exit is for the White House. It will put you a block from Lafayette Square on the north side.

But driving and parking is tricky in DC, and I recommend against it.

There are some pay lots on Eye Street about a 10 minute walk from the White House. Some are filled early with monthly contract parking.

Call Colonial Parking and ask them which lot is closest to the White House.

Park at the Glenmont Metro Station (Exit 31 North from I-495 West) and take the Red Line Line to Farragut North - I think you're about 4 blocks from the White House. Parking will cost you $4 and you will need a SmartTrip or a credit card to exit the parking garage.

I've driven into DC many times, so you could navigate it, and there is parking (expensive) in garages on the surrounding streets, but the previous answers really are correct -- the least stressful way to go is to park for the Metro and take it into the city. It's clean (much different than NYC), convenient, and you'll just miss a lot of hassles, and you'll be able to enjoy you stay more.

Ok I dont remember the steet names, but there is a parking lot right across the street from the US Mint right near the National Mall. It will put you less then 10 minutes walk from the White House.

Find a metro stop on your route. Park at the metro station (3.75 per day) then ride the metro to the Federal Triangle stop.

You will be just around the corner from the white house.

There are several parking garages on K Street, just a block or so away from the White House.

Just crash through the fence and park on the lawn. You'll probably get to see things the average tourist can't. No, seriously, according to their website, whitehouse.gov, they strongly recommend the use of public transportation. Due to security issues there is no public parking close by.
