A peptic ulcer is an erosion in a segment of the GI mucosa, typically in the stomach (gastric ulcer) or the first few centimeters of the duodenum (duodenal ulcer), that penetrates through the muscularis mucosae. Nearly all ulcers are caused by Helicobacter pylori infection or NSAID use. Symptoms typically include burning epigastric pain that is often relieved by food. Diagnosis is by endoscopy and testing for H. pylori. Treatment involves acid suppression, eradication of H. pylori (if present), and avoidance of NSAIDs.
Vomiting blood and bloody or dark tarry stools are the symptoms of Peptic ulcer.
Peptic ulcers tend to come back if untreated. If you follow the treatment instructions from your doctor and take all of your medications, the Helicobacter pylori infection will be eliminated and you are much less likely to get another ulcer. Your symptoms will also improve if you follow some preventive lifestyle steps.
Possible complications may include:
* Bleeding internally
* Perforation of the intestine and peritonitis
* Bowel obstruction

yes yes it might be crohns. bring that possibility up to your doctor. however, at least he's seeing a doctor, and getting the right tests done. maybe he just has a virus. when i use the bathroom [#2] sometimes it's VERY painful and i see blood. but when diagnosed by a doctor, they found out it was nothing more than an anal fissure, which is perhaps a tear on the anus from dry skin. i dont know if he sees blood when he poops, but the pain could be from a fissure, which they heal themselves up, but come back with hard stools or if you use the bathroom too many times in one day, and he could also have hemmoroids [sp?]...ask the doctor about these.

Throwing up blood and blood in stool are emergent problems people have died from unmonitored GI bleeds. Take him to the ER. IF he is having hematoemesis, they have a reason to admit him for a couple of days till the testing is complete.

it might be crohn's disease. you can google it for more info. basically it's inflammation of the intestines and the symptoms are similar to what your husband has been having. the colonoscopy should show whether or not he has it. he can also get a barium xray done and blood work done.
