My confusion comes from what to do with my floors.I rent a 2 bedroom side of a duplex and I want to do the shabby chic thing. The problem is I have hunter green carpet which sticks out like a sore thumb when i try to think of everything white/pink or cream. So what is a cheap flooring solution because my landlord said I could take it up BUT she couldnt replace it that I would have to.I know I could use a rug but its a good size room.So any suggestions would be appreciated.Under the carpet plain ole concrete slab.Thank you.Or how could I tie in hunter green?

I am thinking an English garden with the green as lush grass. What about using an ivy print with the cream and live plants throughout (silk plants if you have a purple thumb)? Hydrangea print would work also (that flower comes in many colors).

I have put down an area rug to cover up most of a carpet. The green could help frame each room. Cream or white oak furniture would help lighten up the place. Wicker chairs add to the atmosphere.

Oh, I feel for you. The hunter green just doesn't work with shabby chic. Why would anyone choose that color. Cement in itself could be part of your shabby chic design. More and more people are opting for cement floors, but they are usually stained nice colors. Anyhow, you could take it up and see where you can go with it. Maybe stain it and put down a sisal carpet on top. Or, you can find small sisal carpets or mats and tie them together to make a large sisal rug to fit over your existing carpet or cement floor.
Good luck

Instead of going to the trouble and expense of removing the green carpet and replacing it when you move, I'd put down either one large or several smaller area rugs. I've seen rooms where the designer overlaps several area rugs in compatible colors in large rooms and covers most of the carpeting.

Rachel Ashwell sells area rugs that are perfect for her shabby chic decorating style. Here's a link:

They are on the expensive side, but looking at them can give you an idea of what to look for in cheaper ones at a discount store.

I see your dilema! I hate hunter green and it definitely dows not fit into Shabby Chic (which I love). Pull the carpet up. Since the floors are concrete, you could clean them and seal them...then sponge paint them....Create a stone look. It will give you all kinds of ideas. Or you could use self stick vinyl tiles...Home depot has a brand (Newport) and they are about $13.00 for a box of 40. Use area rugs to warm it up. Good Luck
go to www.hgtv.com and type in concrete floors.

Throw an area rug down on top of it leaving the green border. Wallyworld usually has inexpensive ones.

i think of Shabby stylish replaced right into a fad it is enormously lots run it is course. regrettably what seems Shabby stylish to the owner, often only seems undeniable outdated shabby to travelers on your abode. i admire watching exhibits like "sell This abode" and that they are all ademant that Shabby stylish variety... they are talking fixtures... won't charm to shoppers and may be gotten rid of to charm to a sale. it is too undesirable, Shabby stylish is truthfully low-priced! :)
