Ear cartilage gauge size?

Question

Well, I got my cartilage pierced awhile ago with a piercing gun, so I suppose that the gauge size is around 18 - 20g? I want to widen it a little, to maybe 16g (14g at the most, not going any further). How do I do that? Do I just fit in earrings with bigger gauges immediately or what?

it's generally best to taper it up gradually when the piercing's completely healed... and be careful with cartilage, especially when pierced with a gun (the worst way to pierce)
