Not stupid at all. At DEI or shall we call it TEI now, he has sub-par equipment, a stepmother that is an evil witch that he cant get along with and who cheated him out of what was rightfully his. Why on earth would he want to stay there????
Going with HMS was and will be the best thing he will ever do. He & Hendrick go back a very long way, and have alot in common, the are friends first, owner and driver next.
I wish him nothing but the best next year and to all of you naysayers, we will just have to wait and see what he does next year and personally I hope he runs his tail off and wins the Cup just we Jr. fans can rub it your faces!!!!!!!!!

Leaving DEI to HMS is a very good career move. Dale Jr might just establish his individuality and not just be Dale's son

When Jr joined NASCAR, going to DEI was only natural. It was the best thing he could do on account his own dad was his mentor. The only stupid thing I can say Jr did since then career wise, was resign his contract back with the team in 2004. After the 2003 season, it was clear DEI was no longer his dad's vision.

LEAVING DEI was not stupid seeing how Teresa wants to be queen, joining Hendrick WAS stupid, imo... I like Jr. but hate it that he's going with Hendrick. I wish he would have just started his own team...

Jr is not going to DEI he is leaving DEI. I think it was very brave of him to leave. Him and his step-mom Teresa do not get along and they never have. DEI is not the same with Teresa in charge. They cant win races and there equipment is always breaking. I am not a fan of Hendrick motor sports or JR but i think going to Hendrick was the best choice for JR and his carreer

Do you mean stupid for him to leave DEI? No, I don't. He should go, they can't give him cars to be competive and they won't give him the power to make changes. I think it was stupid for DEI to let him go. What was huge friggin' deal giving him ownership? It should belong to Dale Sr.'s kids now anyway and Jr. and his siblings would surely do a lot better running the organization than Teresa does!

Since he's had a winless season so far with DEI, it probably was stupid of him to go there. When he has a winless season again next year with Hendrick, will everyone say he was stupid to go to Hendrick?
I think Hendrick was stupid to fall for the hype and sign him. It's not everyday you see a professional car salesman get hoodwinked as big as Hendrick did!
