Nephew starting BUD/S soon?

Any idea on how I can encourage him or anything I can do to help him prepare?

Not really. He's either got it, or he dosen't. Be encouraging and positive, but the course will find out if he wants it badly enough, and provided he's already in good shape, your help will be very limited in this matter.
