I guess a better question would be.. Did the pagans celebrate birthdays as its done presently?...(you know without the whole patron Gods or sick festivals)..because now a days people celebrate there birthday a totally different way..they take them to dinner give a gift, etc..Im not disagreeing with the JW, as a matter a fact they a make a concrete point and it should be highly considered..all im saying is that birthdays aren't celebrated the same way and maybe the god of the bible didnt put that info in because of what was presently KNOWN as others have mentioned idolatrous, honor patron gods, lie in the realm of magic and religoin, etc and that WOULD distract with all honesty...And again, that sure isnt what many are doing NOW when they celebrate it, is it?...
Just my Two Cents ..
i'd like a mature reply from a jw with regards to this.
Peace everyone...Their is more I have to say but i wanted to be brief.

Since others have adequately addressed the question birthdays I will stick to the second part of your question. Jehovah's Witnesses strongly believe the Bible to be the word of God. Mark 13:32-33 says:“Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father. Keep looking, keep awake, for YOU do not know when the appointed time is. Although we nor anyone else knows the appointed time, we MUST keep looking and keep awake. This involves carefully examining scriptural prophecies and observing world events as these prophesies are fulfilled. Jehovah's Witnesses do not claim infallibility. If further study of God's word reveals we are in error about something, We change to bring our beliefs and practices into closer harmony with the Bible. (See Proverbs 4:18) The celebration of birthdays is an example of this. Jehovah's Witnesses have not celebrated birthdays since acquiring accurate knowledge of the pagan origins in 1926. The same has been true of looking to certain years(not specific dates) as perhaps the time for the beginning of the great tribulation or perhaps Armageddon itself. Faithful Christians follow the Bibles command to keep "close in mind" Jehovah's day of fury. (2Peter 3:11-12) They ardently desire this day and speed it up in their minds rather than put it off in the distant future. We know with absolute certainty that that day will come. We know with absolute certainty that it will take most people by surprise. (1Thessalonians 5:1-3) Those who follow the admonition of Jesus to "keep looking and keep awake" will not be taken by surprise. (1Thessalonians 5:4-5)

Only 2 such celebrations are spoken of in the Holy Scriptures.
Both are of, for & about Pagans & their customs.
Held by persons who did not worship Jehovah--
(Ge 40:20-22; Mr 6:21,22,24-27)
Also, @ both; murder was commited.
I'd say Not a favorable light.
Jesus, the apostles nor did the Israelites
have a share in this custom.
The custom of celebrating b-days
comes from ancient false religions.
True Christians give gifts & have good times
together @ other times during the year.
Nowhere in the Scriptures did
Jesus command this of his followers.
He did command that we continue
commerating his death & resurrection, tho.

God has a personal name;
YHWH aka Jehovah, Yahweh.

We do believe the entire Bible is the inspired word of God.

Jesus is the Son of the Most High God, YHWH; aka Jehovah.

Jesus is the only-begotten god.
Sent to earth from his God & Father
to pay the ransom, to buy us back
from bondage to sin & death.

That we are living in the last days.

No Trinity.
No elevated clergy class.
So much more.....

Why Jesus never celebrates birthdays? even his own one? also the bible in Eclessiastes 7:1-2 "A name is better than good oil, and the day of death than the day of one’s being born"

gives more importance to the date of death rather than the day of birth.

we do not celebrate birthdays because Jesus never celebrated his birthday and we follow his footsteps. and in the Bible there is 2 accounts of birthday parties and they were unwholesome gatherings and they did not worship Jehovah, custom of celebrating birthdays comes from ancient false religions. at Genesis 40:20-22 20 "Now on the third day it turned out to be Phar´aoh’s birthday, and he proceeded to make a feast for all his servants and to lift up the head of the chief of the cupbearers and the head of the chief of the bakers in the midst of his servants. 21 Accordingly he returned the chief of the cupbearers to his post of cupbearer, and he continued to give the cup into Phar´aoh’s hand. 22 But the chief of the bakers he hung up, just as Joseph had given them the interpretation. 23 However, the chief of the cupbearers did not remember Joseph and went on forgetting him."

And Mark 6:21,22 "But a convenient day came along when Herod spread an evening meal on his birthday for his top-ranking men and the military commanders and the foremost ones of Gal´i·lee. 22 And the daughter of this very He·ro´di·as came in and danced and pleased Herod and those reclining with him. The king said to the maiden: “Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you" so King Herod requested that John the Babtizers head be brought on a plate and since it was his birthday they did it for him.

That is horrible! even tho we don't celebrate b-days we still give gifts year-round just not on holidays.

PRAISE JAH YOU PEOPLE!

Why should we celebrate birthdays? Is merely being born something great that we accomplished?

What would Jesus do? What *did* he do? There is never a mention of birthday parties for Jesus in the Scriptures.

If the most significant Birth of all was not celebrated yearly by Jesus or his apostles, what's so significant about ours?

There is little question that Jesus’ first followers, who were of Jewish background, did not celebrate his birthday. According to the Encyclopaedia Judaica, “the celebration of birthdays is unknown in traditional Jewish ritual.” Early Christians certainly would not have adopted such a celebration. Rather than celebrate his birth, they would respect Jesus’ command to memorialize his death, for which they had an incontestable date, namely, Nisan 14.
The second part of the " Date" reminds me of
Perhaps some of the ridiculers of whom Peter warned were like this, “proceeding according to their own desires.” In alerting his readers, the apostle used an emphatic form of expression. He warned of the arrival of “ridiculers with their ridicule.”
Those first-century ridiculers questioned the reality of Christ’s “promised presence,” saying: “Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep in death, all things are continuing exactly as from creation’s beginning.” (2 Peter 3:4)

Jehovah's Witnesses believe strongly in God Jehovah and in his Son Jesus Christ.

Regarding birthday celebrations, bible students are encouraged to consider:
: 0% of faithful biblical Jews celebrated birthdays
: 0% of first century Christians celebrated birthdays
: 100% of birthdays celebrated in the bible were by debauched enemies of God (See Mark 6:17-29; Gen 40:19-22)

Bible historians (M'Clintock, Strong, and others) have noted that faithful Jews of the bible did not celebrate birthdays, and that ancient pagan birthday celebrations were at least partially intended to honor the patron gods of the particular day.

By comparison with such paganisms, the bible does not even tell us the birthdates of Jesus or ANY of his apostles!

Since such celebrations are not required in true worship, and can easily become a distraction, so Jehovah's Witnesses focus their attention elsewhere. In particular, they are focussed on the preaching work which *IS* a requirement for Christians:

(Luke 10:1-17) [Jesus] the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

We follow the Bible's instructions, and the Bible doesn't say anything about celebrating any holiday, so we have nothing to do with holidays. If you want to learn more about us, you can visit your local Kingdom Hall and ask if you can study with them. They will gladly accept.

You can find information about why we don't celebrate birthdays at www.watchtower.org.

As for our "date", we never officially had one and we never would as Jesus said that only the Father knew the time and the hour. 2 Tim 3:1-5, Luke 21 and Matthew 24 shows that we really are living in the last days of this system though.
