My child wants a Ferrari, and he is 16? What do you think?

Start "dating" at 10? I mean, children love to play dress up, pretend to get married, and so on, but to call it dating is not a good idea. To have a playmate is better.

Tell him he can have a playmate, and when he is older you will discuss "dating".

10 year olds do not even know the definition of dating, just that older people do it. Do not let him grow up too fast. Enjoy his young innocence for as long as you can.

Good luck!!

If you can't control your child at 10, then I am going to hate to see you when he's at 14, or 17. Time to actually be a parent. Don't try to rationalize with him or explain why you make this decision. He is testing his power and if you buckle under, he will walk all over you the rest of his life. I know a lot of these teenagers on here will tell you to let him have his way, but they have been led to beleive that they have "rights". They do not. You don't have rights in this country until you are at an age where you are legally responsible for your own actions.

Just keep talking to your child. That's our job as parents, don't give up. You are right no child 10 years old needs a "girlfriend" or "boyfriend" you will be doing the girls parents a favor by holding the line on this one. Quietly keep an eye on your young suitor and make sure he is obeying you. This is definitely something you need to deal with tenderly you don't want to scare him off dating forever. Just keep explaining to him that 10 year old dating is just not wise and explain that other parents that care about their children think this too. And try to keep him busy in outside activities so he doesn't have too much time on his hands.

The boy is only ten.....
Let him call the girl he fancies his girlfriend, It'll do no harm. She might help him study. They might do homework together.
She could have a positive effect on his education.

Hold off all your worries until his hormones kick in at puberty
Like most boys at about thirteen, the hormones come and mess up the body and the mind. So try not to be too hard on him with the mood swings

But for now he is 10 - he fancies girls. You would be better to give him some tips, than say NO....
If you support him, you will get to see the girl he likes, rather than being lied to, and not know about her.
If you try to be supportive now, it may make things easier once the moody teens start.

try not to stress, you are going to have to deal with him dating at some point.

I wouldn't worry about it at that age they will not touch each other. Having a boyfriend at ten is when you will sometimes hold hands and maybe even dance with each other at a blue light disco, maybe these days with over-sexed youngsters they will even peck on the lips and then wipe germs off with their hands. I really think its nothing to worry about its just a game and the most you will need to input is to buy his girlfriend a birthday present if they even last that long : )

I really think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Do you realise what a 10yr old relationship is like? He'll prob write her a note saying "will you be my girlfriend? YES NO, Please tick."

She'll tick it and they'll go around tell everyone that they have a girlfriend/boyfriend. It doesn't mean anything, it just makes them feel grown up.

hahaha lol.....ok i'm 15 and STILL havent hada girlfreind!!! And thats mainly my fault, because i dont want it to interupt my education! basically you need to show him what the results of having a girlfreind at such a young age! you know show him examples of people possibly family relatives and stuff that threw away their education for a girl and where they ended up! so basically give him some big consequences...even if they are exagerated!!!!!! in essence just drop little hints about y its a bad idea.....even tell him stories about u and your husband.........my parents did it to me and now i fully understand education 1st theres lots of time for girls afterwards!!!!

Kids will be kids, I know when I was that age my parents did not want me to have a gf at that age too. but it didn't stop me... he will still have a gf even if you don't want him to... only difference is that he will not bring her around until you give it the OK... so do you want him to go behind your back or would you rater supervise?
