Fruit means righteousness, and righteousness is living a life of obedience surrendered to the Father's will.

Apple trees produce apples, and God is saying if you're a Christian, you're going to bear Christian (righteous) fruit. This is meant to be a sign of who's a believer and who is merely claiming to be. Christian's don't produce evil fruit.

Basically, if you're a believer, you're going to wear it on the outside.

'Fruit' just means the influence we give, the consequences of our actions. If we truly live as Christians, our actions will testify of that fact.
