If you have gluten intolerance, you will have to avoid a lot of breads and cereals.

Fortunately, there are flours that can be used instead of the traditional white flour in recipes. And a few weeks ago, someone on one of my other lists pointed out that you can actually make oat flour by running oatmeal through a food processor.

As for finding out if you have the intolerance or not, try avoiding wheat for a couple of weeks and see if you experience symptoms.

Good luck!

To be confirmed you need to see a doctor, such as a GI. Tell them what you suspect and that you want testing for Celiac Disease (which in most cases is what gluten intolerance is. There is Non Celiac gluten intolerance but its pretty rare.) You will need blood work for Celiac and then possibly and endoscopy with biopsy. While u are getting blood work for the CD,t hey should test for basic food allergis also, including, wheat, rye, barley and oats.
For more info on testing, diagnosis, what you can and cant eat, here are the best sites.

Gluten is contained in most grains. Rice and Quinoa are some grains you can have. i find gluten makes my stomach ache. Your life doesnt have to be over when you have a gluten intolerance. My best advice is to avoid it completely for a week and see if any of your symptoms subside. Gluten free breads and cakes can be purchased from various shops and stores. Some supermarkets have a dedicated section for gluten free breads. Yahoo has many cookery lists for gluten free people. im on the "gfcfrecipies" list.
