It means that it has 6 cylinders arranged in a V shape! 3 on one side and 3 on the other.

You can get the Tucson in V6 or I4, the Santa Fe has 2 different V6 engines available, the 2.7 litter is the base which is the same as the Tucson or 3.3 litter. The price difference on the Tucson 4 vs 6 cylinder is a bit hefty ($4K) at which point you could get the Santa Fe base model for a few hundred $'s more.
If you mom is just using the vehicle for herself and doesn't have to haul people or objects often then the Tucson with I4 is her best option, if she wants to carry kids often then the V6 would drive better, if she was teenagers or wants a tow package the Santa Fe V6 3.3 litter is definitely the best option. If the she does want that 3.3 V6 Santa Fe and the price is too high, then a 1-2 year old model would slide into her price range easily.
BTW, fuel economy is so close between engines that it shouldn't factor into your decision, 2 mpg even over 100,000 miles at $3 a gallon is only about $900...about the same as the worthless moonroof.

The Santa Fe's base engine is the 2.7L V6. The higher trim models have a 3.3L V6 which is more powerful but also more costly. Both are stronger then the 4 cylinder but will use more gas. Sounds like your mom wants fuel economy more so then power so her only option (if she really wants a Hyundai SUV) is the Tuscon. A good compromise would be the front wheel drive 2.7L V6 Santa Fe. Not bad on gas and more powerful then the 4 but keep in mind the Tuscon is less expensive then the SF as well. Can't go wrong with both trucks.

V6 means the engine has 6 cylinders positioned in a V shape with 3 on each side. The Santa Fe is equpied with either of the 6 cylinder and you have to look at manual vs automatic transmission. Also look at what rebates and incentives and interest rates are offered for each vehicle. Much depends on how the vehicle is intended to be used and by whom and where. Lots of people and cargo, then go for the Santa Fe. Less? Then go for the Tuscon. Parking in city areas often? Then go for the Tuscon. Gas mileage is comparable over all with either model and either engine but the Tuscon is better. The 6 cylinder will always have power when you need it, like on hills, or when loaded with people/cargo and the Santa Fe will always have more room. The Santa Fe gives you more visability to see others and other to see you. Look at what you need, what you intend to do, who is going to drive it and when/where. You can go to MSN dot com and go to autos and compare each side by side showing all specs, engine, safety, mpg, images, colors projected costs, rebates, and so on to get the best information for an informed decision.

Nothing it just means that it has 6 cylinders, The Tuscon is available in 4 cylinder and V6, the Santa Fe has two V6 engines a 2.7 liter V6 with 185 hp and 3.3 liter V6 with 242 hp, i would recommend the 3.3 liter Santa Fe because of zero maintenance timing chain, also it is about what your mom can afford.

The v6 has so much more power and you don't have to sacrifice that much on gas. 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder have pretty close gas mileage. It's a tiny more investment of such a big difference, you should get the santa fe v6 model. V6 models are more reliable than 4 cylinder. I have 06 hyundai sonata with the same 3.3 v6 engine as santa fe does, and get almost 30miles to the gallon on the highway driving at 60mph.

Sante fe comes with a V6. I own a 2002 sonota with the V6 with 191,581 miles on it. The V 6 is a bigger motor and gets less gas milage but not to much to complain for that extra power. I work at a a dealership and the Sante Fe sells more than the Tuson. Sante fe with the V6 gets 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The Tuson with a 4 cylinder gets 22 mpg city and 27 mpg highway and has 140 hp and Torque LBS: 136 ft-lbs. @ 4500 rpm . As the V6 has 185 hp and 183 ft-lbs. @ 4000 rpm . Also the Sante Fe Has more headroom than the Tuson.

V6 can give more power and more smooth than 4. 4 cylinder can save gas than V6. The best for your mom to test drive and see what she feels like. I had 4 cylinder engine for 10 years and get tired of it. So I like V6 better than 4.

The Santa Fe is so much more of a vehicle than the Tucson, all she would do is drive them both...I think she'll buy the Santa Fe. The 3.3 is a great engine, very smooth. My wife drives one, she loves it.
