Actually yes, because they will begin to migrate and infest sinus cavaties preventing the cat from proper breathing. It will cause severe nose bleeds also when it gets to that point. If you have a cat with this problem please make sure it is taken care of, just think of what a miserable suffering way to die this would be :o(

It'll drive him crazy, that's for sure. I used a product called "Tiny Tiger" for ear mites on my cat when she was infested. It worked very well - the hardest part was learning how to keep her still when I did the treatment. Here's what I did:
I put her on the table, and had a light bath towel ready. I would open the bottle, hold her by her scruff and quickly put the drops in her ears, then cover her head VERY FAST with the towel because when you let go of the scruff, they will shake their heads - and you don't want that ear mite medication in your face. Towel comes off, kitty goes back on the floor (a bit miffed), and one treatment is done.
It's probably easier to do this with two people - one to hold the cat, the other to put the drops in.

I have never heard of a cat dying from ear mites but they can cause severe infections so I suppose blood poisoning as a result of infection could cause death.
Get some ear drops from the vet and clear the poor lad's ears up - he must be so miserable with them.
If you can't get to a vet try the local pet shop - they should have something for it ( but the drops from the vet would be better and work faster)

Oh god yes! left to long the ear mights can work their way into the brain (so my mom always said) and also it is very uncomfortable and if not kill them, certainly, seriously damage them.. If you cant afford ear drops then use parafin oil. I have cats since i can't remember.
Extra.. Use the drops/oil 2 times a day.. And then rub close the ear (fold it over) and rub it faily hard. To clean the ear, dont just use a cotton bud.. that is too small.. wrap tissue hard around the cotton bud. Go faily deep but not too deep to get out the muck.
And then always check later. Clean the bedding also.. as mites can hang out there and re-infect the cat.
Good luck*

Ear mites may not kill him but the poor thing probably wishes he were dead. There are ear drops for this that a vet can prescribe for your cat. Take the cat to the vet today! With treatment, they'll clear up nicely.

My kitty cat had the same after we first got it. It was a stray pet and we took it to the vet to get it checked up on. He had ear mites and the vet gave us ear drops desgined for him to put into his ears. His ears cleared up. Good Luck!

Ow!
I don't know that they can kill your kitty directly. But they can introduce infection. They will make him uncomfortable. And they might even effect his hearing and his sense of balance.
A vet can give you drops to put in his ears, and tell you how to clean them out. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly between times.
Good luck!

Yes, untreated ear mites CAN kill your cat. Get her to the vet, already.

the mites will only kill the cat if their civilization develops nuclear technology.
before this happens you must shave your beloved pet and bathe him / her / it / whatever in a mixture of tartar sauce and gasoline. then, wrap the feline in tinfoil and place in the microwave on high for five minutes.
