1 Timothy :4 says that we are not to give heed to fable, and endless geneologies; which minister quetions rather than godly edification ( read the entire chapter)
2 Timothy 2: 23 says to avoid foolish and unlearned questions for their only purpose is to create strife
and finally, Titus 3:9 says to avoid foolish questions, and geneologies, and contentions and strivings about the law, for they are unprofitable and vain

I am so happy you asked this, and you've already had the right answers.

The Timothy that people quoted, along with Matthew 10:11-14 ought to instruct us on how to behave here and everywhere in our lives, if this isn't enough:

Matthew 22:35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

***
If we all did this, would there be so much antagonism against Christians?

Thank you for the reminder.

2 Timothy 2:23 "but refuse foolish and ignorant speculations knowing that they produce quarrels"

1 Timothy 1:6 "for some men, straying from these things have turned aside to fruitless discussions"

1 Timothy 6:20 "O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called "knowledge",- which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith.

it's sad that so many people fail to take that advice and create divisions in the church by arguing such silly things as how much water should be used in a baptism, or whether they should use grape juice instead of wine for communion. i would think that those are the senseless kind of arguments paul had in mind.

2 Timothy 2 : 22-26

22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

2 Timothy 2:23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. 24 And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
