Eucalyptol is a natural organic compound which is a colorless liquid. It is the main component of that oil.

Eucalyptol is also known by a variety of synonyms: 1,8-cineol, limonene oxide, cajeputol, 1,8-epoxy-p-menthane, 1,8-oxido-p-menthane, eucalyptol, eucalyptole, 1,3,3-trimethyl-2-oxabicyclo[2,2,2]octane, cineol, cineole.

There is no authentic record that it repels mosquitoes; but there is a record that it is used to ATTRACT and collect bees for scientific studies .

If it DOES repel mosquitoes then eucalyptol is the ingredient responsible for it.

...i think the oil of eucalyptus has this "insect-repellant properties" that makes mosquitoes go away...

...the odor or the substance(s) present in the oil are maybe the ones that repel(s) the mosquitoes. Also, the nature of the oil may interfere with the mosquito's ability to detect their victims or it may prevent them from landing (on the skin)...

...i really don't know the specifics but eucalyptus seems very widely used as mosquito-repellant...

...hope i help...^_^

I don't know that it does. But I would guess the oil. I know they don't like oil of citronella. I'm allergic to eucalyptus myself so I don't spend much time around them.
