I don't think they are really make fun of the language they don't know. It's just bewilderment of what you don't understand. Like if you hear a word that you don't know but it greatly resembles to something in you own, you tend to think about what could be the logic, what made that foreign people use that particular word. And yes, you may snicker (i did today when i was studying German: **** means thick, but i did think of something else :) So we can be amused but it's not a harmful laugh in my opinion.

Fear and ignorance of the unknown. It is easier to laugh about something than trying to learn something about it. The sad part is jokes about foreign languages can come from prominent, high-ranking and even intelligent members of our society. Don't forget, English has enjoyed being number one in the world back to back...Before US dominance, the UK (with English of course) was the world leader. This success has caused foreign language study in the US to be more or less a low priority.

Every language has some good things as well as bad things.
Like in Hindi yesterday means 'kal' and tomorrow means 'kal'
And in English we use to call elders and smaller people 'you'

I guess because they don't enjoy the beauty of the other language and they are very narrow minded that they don't want to understand the other language.

I think that only people who never learned any second language behave like that. They had no opportunity to feel that languages are awesome.
