Why do you kneel to pray? some don't, i know. but those that do...
Does God get a better reception?
Is that a way to connect the hot line with God?
If He gets the same message and the same respect without you kneeling, why ruin your pants?

You don't really have to kneel. But sometimes, if YOU feel the need to, you can. Kneeling just shows God you are humble.

Hi Just the Kid,
Kneeling is an exterior way of showing what's going on in a person's heart when he prays to God. Yes, God is omniscient and ultimately the sincerity and humbleness of our heart is more important than any posture a person may have when praying.
It's like when a man gets on his knees to propose to the woman he loves. Does she know he loves him? Off course. But the gesture is a way to honor her, and there are times when kneeling is a way of showing honor to God.
It is in no where required in the Bible-- although its clear that humility should be the disposition of a heart when praying to God. For some people i guess honoring God is more important than a pair of perfectly pressed clean pants.
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

The same reason Kings used to get their rings kissed. There was, once upon a time, SUCH a fear of burning in Hell for all eternity, that the idea was to let God SEE you as lowly subjects with nothing but respect and admiration, so as to always be on His merciful side. Kneeling became popular because "When in Rome..."

That's just a traditional way of showing the utmost respect for God. It in no way is needed, but I'm sure God wouldn't mind it. You can pray to God any way you'd like, but you must be humble for him to hear you. That doesn't mean you need to kneel, though. I, myself, don't. I pray to God in bed, in the shower, while shopping, while jogging, etc. God will always have his ear open to those who diligently pray to him.

you don't HAVE to kneel when you pray.. at least that's what i believe in. you can stand up and even walk around! or just sit down. I don't see anything wrong with kneeling.. i do it myself sometimes... whatever makes you comfortable. The reason why i believe its done is to show reverence to God.. to show respect.. same with the lifting of hands.. not a lot of people believe in that.. but its for reverence.

Because you subjugate yourself to God. And the church. It's tradition. If you have a personal relationship with God, then you don't have to worry about your slacks. But, then, how would the church fill it's coffers? Hmmm, better become the intermediary and speak in sacred secret tongues (Latin) to add mystery. Now at least, only the most devout prostrate themselves. That would be a bit awkward if everyone prostrated, wouldn't it? I'd like to be on bottom, though.

humility when practical. anytime when I don't actually need to use my legs I can kneel. I'm generally just restless, so I pray on the go, whenever, whatever position. kneeling is just a sign of humility, like bowing. it's basically situational.

if you were adressing a king that demanded great respect im sure you would kneel or at least bow when talking to him.
God created everything ( which surpasses reat respect and goes to worship) so if you are adressing God why shouldnt kneel like the king except a million times greater beacuse hes God?

Its nothing but a motif that stands for respect, just like a kowtow.
According to the more straightforward logic you seem to prefer, people shouldn't shake hands or say hello or good morning etc. to each other too, since everyone'd know who wishes them well or not.

It's a sign of submission. The Abrahamic god is an ego maniac, demanding complete suplication.
I have more respect for Native American prayers. They are shouted to the sky, by a man who is standing, and facing his deity as a confident man.
