These people at a little church gathering think I'm an uptight germophone.. Because of a few instances. 1) A woman's child was double-dipping carrots in ranch dressing (But licking all of the ranch off and repeatedly dipping) Altho I realize in this instance I should have left it there and gotten myself some different dressing. 2). A fly lands on a birthday cake and I remove the frosting from the section where it landed.
So was I acting like a germophobe or are those justified?

You're justified in being bothered by those things.
If the double-dipping just involved biting the end off one of the carrots and then going back for more, I'd just leave that one alone. But licking the dressing off and then dipping again? That's disgusting. That child's mother should have given him some of his own dressing so he could do that.
Flies are dirty. There's no other way to put it. Removing the frosting from the section it landed on was a smart thing to do. A germophobe would have thrown the whole cake away.
I prefer to think of people like you (and me, incidentally) as health-conscious. We are not too uptight about getting germs, but we want to protect our health from excessive germs. If we see something that could possibly compromise that, we deal with it.
A germophobe (also known as a microphobe) is insanely paranoid about germs. They'll walk around with a surgical mask, refuse to eat food prepared by someone else, bathe at least 3 times a day, refuse to shake a person's hand and if they accidentally come into contact with another human being *gasp!* they throw a fit and have to go clean themselves up. They also get sick constantly because their immune system, having little exposure to other people's germs, doesn't know how to cope with the germs they do get. My uncle is a germophobe. People like you and me are not.

Not in my opinion. If a child is double dipping, why would you want her germs and possibly get sick like a cold or virus? I would have wiped the frosting off the cake too if a bug landed in it and if the people at your church think otherwise, offer them a piece of cake with the fly in it next time.

Certifiable obsessive-compulsive disorder germophobe! Join the club! LOL
Do you carry a little bottle of hand-sanitizer around in your purse? Do you go to a sink and "wash the public off" your hands as soon as you get home? Do you squat in a public toilet or lay paper all around the seat? Do you wash the top of a Coke can before popping the top and pouring?
If you live in a busy city, you can't be too careful! Germs are everywhere! And double-dipping children are horrible carriers of airborne and contagious pathogens! Flies and mosquitoes have killed billions of human beings around the world over the centuries!!
I think people should back off you. Us germophobes gotta stick together! LOL

it rather is rather an rigidity undertaking. in case you ought to ""change off"" the germ undertaking then you definately could purely finally end up expressing your rigidity in a distinctive way. There ARE drugs obtainable that could take care of those problems. It treats the rigidity and lets you then artwork in the process the germ undertaking. you have been like this for 4 years, so which you will't only change it off. it is previous you. you're purely each and every going to get previous this in case you attain out for help from others. Germs can rather be a real probability - my mom very almost died of pnemonia at present, so I understand why you're under pressure. yet, there is no longer something which you do can do away with them. The strikes you're taking do no longer help. It purely serves to alleviate your rigidity. you'll be able to desire to have confidence that your ansestors survived via billions of years, and that your immune equipment is totally designed to proceed to exist in this ecosystem. The germs are not possibly to rather kill you. Your physique has defenses against them. additionally, realistically, you have a 30% probability of death of a heart attack, and a 30% probability of it being maximum cancers.. So perhaps placed some concentration into workout too, and healthful ingesting / antioxidants, to make your physique better. yet, it is rigidity, no longer rational concept which you're coping with - so, medicine and expert help are possibly your perfect guess at getting via this.

Yes, you have a problem, maybe not to serious, but if it gets worse, it is a form of OCD, and it can be crippling. Get a GRIP, if that doesn't work, seek professional help.
Removing the icing from the cake is totally ridiculous! How many other flies may have landed on that cake. The bratty kid was wrong, and parents were more wrong for not watching him, but you being upset about it because of germs is not normal. Would you kiss that kid?? or any kid? If the answer is no, because of germs, get HELP.

No, your not a germaphobe.
1. If I was you and the child was doing that in front of me I would have told the parents. What if that child had hepatitis? I don't like double dippers at gatherings either.
2. Flies do carry disease, but sometimes we can't control what happens when food is out.
We can't live in bubbles to protect us from germs and we do need some around so we can fight off infections if we come across them later.

I think the first instance is justified. I wouldn't want to eat dressing that anybody has put their saliva into! lol
As for the fly thing, I think that's ok too. The fly didn't do anything really to the cake, but I don't particularly like bugs on my food either.
I don't think you're a germophobe.

Your actions were correct both times. The other people sound dirty AND clueless.
Parents especially just don't get it. Not everything little johnny does is precious especially if it violates someone else's personal space or acceptable public behavior. Obviously this kid's mom is merely there for decoration and is not actively involved in trying to mold her child to take a productive and unoffensive place in society. And you may print this out and slip it to her. As for the fly...you do know they eat crap, right?
So... I would toss out anything one landed on before I'd eat it.

No, I'm the exact same way. I wash my hands at least twenty times a day, no kidding. Is it wrong to not want to get a cold and or a flu bug? Of course not.Oh, and when that fly landed on that cake, it vomited on it.Flys always throw up anywhere they land.

Actually in todays society you are justified to use caution. Since you don't know the health of the woman and child for all you know they child may have an illness you don't want to share like aids.
And who knows where the fly was last.
