Hinduism is definately a religion and not a lifestyle followed by a person or a group of persons living in a society following this religion.Hinduism is a religion which honours humanity, which does not encourage violence, which teaches the importance of education, which has directed its followers with high ideals in every sphere of life.I should emphasise more due to prevalent circumstances that Hinduism is a Religion which treats Women as a Deity and also teaches to accept and respect all religions.Seeing today's scenario of communal disharmony and cruelty and direspect being meeted out to women, I certainly do not think that Hinduism is a lifestyle coz if it were our lifestyle would have be of 'High Ordeals' and we would be leading a principled life backed with ideologies which is certainly not reflected in the present state of affairs.

I look at Hinduism as representing a holistic system which has found a way to incorporate differing theological emphases and systems of morality into a vast cultural expression.
It's definitely not a religion only for sunday, nor is it a religion with particular boundaries - like Christianity or Islam, for instance. In most cases with those, there's a clear boundary and set of criteria for believers and unbelievers. In Hinduism, the lines are a bit more blurry. One can be nearly (maybe completely, I don't know) atheistic and a decent participant in Hindu society.

Hinduism was an original religion in start based on belief on One God. Later it was modified to meet the cultural requirement of Aryans. Now it is more a culture or lifestyle than a religion.
