That's such a funny question for me. My dad was atheist and my mom was Pentecostal. I followed after my dad and was an atheist tilI was 19. I thought my mom was absolutely nuts for believing in God.She once told me that God told me that she embarrassed me and I wished that she was like my friends moms ( worldly and secular). It did freak me out a bit and was the truth. When I came under conviction of the Holy Spirit, I called my sister and asked her if I came home (I was basically a runaway at this time) would she send me to a shrink, I thought I was loosing my mind (because I was coming to believe in God.)

This is a good question, it really got me thinking. I don't think my parents are nut jobs exactly, but I don't understand why they believe the way they do. They both converted to mormonism when they were in college, which is really hard for me to understand. I can understand how someone could be indoctrinated into that religion from birth, but I don't really understand how someone could believe that after years of believing in another religion, or no religion. As far as beliefs my parents and I couldn't be anymore different, and I'll guess we'll never understand each other but I have my beliefs and they have theirs which will just have to be a good enough explanation for me

I was never brought up with religion, so this question is very much mute for myself.
But i will tell you this, my children are forced to do religious education and I mean forced. They don't like it at all, but i believe that to be able to make a clear and well thought out decision that you have to have an understanding of both sides of an argument.
So I do not force my views on them, instead I offer them two alternatives and they have the choice to decide which they want to believe.
Maybe you would have a different view on things if you were allowed the same choice?

I am not an Atheist, but if an Atheists parents believed in God, I'd say that they had the brains in the family and not the Atheist child.

No I think they are victims of a very well done machine of propaganda known as religion that preys upon every known weakness and gullibility our instinctual selves have to offer .
it's no wonder education takes so long to ketch a hand hold when the endoctrinations start at birth and are so deeply embedded into our every cell of being . besides the peer pressure and the advantage of being succesfull by knowing the "right" people in the "right" way .
Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.

I don't think my parents are nut jobs for believing in God. I myself would not allow my kids religious instruction at school. I taught them to believe in themselves.

That's a strange question. I would think that God believing parents would be just as suprised at their child's unbelief as they the atheistic child would be at their parents' ability to believe.

Nope ......

A. My Parents do not believe in god.

B. Even if they did, it is their choice, as long as they do not push it down to me, it is perfectly fine.
