Your correct...but Hell is needed to counter balance the Universe against Heaven. "Fence sitters" are annihilated though...but not until the end of the universal cycle. (Which is very soon) Its the universal principle of Positive vs Negative, (Hydrajin vs Helios) everything must be "neutral" overall.
Also "Man" have existed a lot longer than they recall, as they were actually created at the beginning of "the fall" and half of eternity ago. Many have been quite happy to spread pain and suffering all that time. We "Le Jin" (living jenius or anjel) have had to sit back and tolerate it...until soon! I do not feel sorry for them. Their fate will be justice. I'll even open the gate myself when needed. Only a "human" (high man) may go the other route with us. We are here for them.
And it's not "punishment", it's consequence!
De "mon" (demon or man) are the "planet killers." They are the "fire" that consumes the Phoenix, a necessary "evil".

Hell wasn't really hyped up until the Middle Ages. It is possible that you would simply not exist when you die instead of going to hell. Or maybe you are only punished for a limited amount of time. We will all find out eventually.

I think a better question is Why does God send people to hell for an eternity for a single lifetime of sin? If God was truly just shouldn't the punishment fit the crime? you just think about that thought for a second

I'd agree that oblivion would certainly be more merciful then eternal torment.
I genuinely cannot imagine a crime committed in a mortal life that could deserve truely eternal "punishment". There is nothing "just" or "fair" about such a thing. Punishment is supposed to be corrective, not vengance.
And sentencing someone to suffer because they refused to stroke your ego? That's just plain petty.

That is what the Bible tells us - that God annihilates wicked ones. Hell is a man-made thing.
Eccl. 9:5: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” In order to be burned forever and for it to be an effective punishment, wouldn't the person have to be conscious of being burned? But the Bible tells us they are conscious of nothing at all. This is backed up by another scripture - Ps. 146:4: “His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts [“thoughts,” KJ, 145:4 in Dy; “all his thinking,” NE; “plans,” RS, NAB] do perish.”
Ezek. 18:4: “The soul [“soul,” RS, NE, KJ, Dy, Kx; “man,” JB; “person,” TEV] that is sinning—it itself will die.” So we do not have a soul tat lives on after our bodies die.
God is love, he is our father. If you have a child and they do something bad, maybe something you told them not to do, would you hold their hand in a fire to punish them? No, and neither would God.

Satan, if he existed, would get off on sending people to hell, so if anything, the doGtrine of hell came from the pit of hell.

If he were so powerful he'd make people right in the first place. As it is, the first children he ever made were all over that tree the moment he tuned his back. What a hopeless god.
