Bought a Toshiba HDTV in 2003 along with a warranty. Immediately I noticed a discoloration expanding from the corner. I called about a month later and had a tv tech guy visit. He took the screen off the (2 pieces) and he noticed a film build up that was spreading. Anyway he said it would $400 to replace. BESTBUY denied it because they said I caused it. I tried to obtain a pro-rated refund, but, they denied that too since I did not have the little BESTBUY folder they put the receipts in. Never mind that I had the receipt proving the purchase of the extended warranty. I've logged complaints with the Ohio Attorney General and BBB and all I got was a coupon. have not shopped at BESTBUY in over 4 years. the BEST scam warranty you can BUY.

I won't do business with them. They failed time and again to take care of warranty work on computers and televisions in this area. Check with the Federal Government. Not too long ago, BB was in the news for do the same and they were sued in Federal Court. I believe you want to search the US Department of Commerces website.

Probably the best thing to do in the short term is go to your local district attorney's office and file a complaint, they have to investigate every complaint. If you kept your receipt, BB has records that can be easily accessed and verify your warranty status. The local BB tried to pull the same job on me last year, but I had the little book. I still filed a complaint against them for initially refusing to repair my flatscreen. I had given them the original receipt, told me that it they couldn't find anything, and walked away. A week later, several of the stores employees were out of their jobs when BB cut thousands of jobs. I ran across one of those former employees soon there after, she had recognized me from the earlier problem and told me that they not only could look up the status of my warranty, but that they had done so and lied to me. I went back to the store a few days later, this time with a personal friend who, just happens to be a local attorney. It was quite an eye opener for the rude lying manager that had denied my warranty coverage.

I have worked with televisions and screens of all kinds for more than 25 years and I'm not sure what kind of film build up you could have possibly experienced. The closest thing that would make sense is that some kind of aerosol had been used near the screen and settled on it due to the electic charges.

We'll at least now I know I'm not the only one who has been so poorly served by BB.

I'm pretty sure that Circuit City has been happy to have my business since.

My dad bought a receiver with the performance service plan (PSP). When it stopped working, we toook it to BB, they said we could get a new one, eventhough it wasn't a replacement plan. Problem was that they didn't have a receiver with as many watts as the one we had, at a same price, only the +$100 expensive ones had as many watts, so if we chose equal watts, we would have to pay more. My dad told them that they should fix our receiver because that was what was in the contract. They said no, because it's more expensive for them to send the unit to service, and we should get a new one. My dad yelled at their f*ing faces because we had also been scamed from them before, this time dealing with a computer, and they didn't even fix it, they gave it to us just the way it was because there were only a few days before the warranty expired, so they were just stalling. Not too long ago, I took my iPod with warranty, and when I got it back they wanted to charge me $28 because Apple said there was nothing wrong with it (lazy bastards didn't check it throughly), my dad was with me and yelled at their f*ing faces again, telling them about the receiver and the computer, the guy got freakin red, and waived the fee, I'm not shopping for my electronics again at Best Buy, I now changed to Circuit City.

I've had several purchases at Best Buy, almost always with a warranty, and with the two times I needed that warranty they've always done right by me.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

Well to say the least I hope this has been a learning experiance for you. Best Buy is the worst electronics retailer period. They even schemed on only allowing customers who bought enough batteries into there store to shop. Extended warranties are a joke and I very seldom give in to them.

sorry for you
all extended warrenties are a joke,
two in my life on a car and they would not honor the repair of an exhaust system. And stupid I got on a dishwaser and it almost doubled the price.
Never again for this boy

ALL companies squirm out of their extended warranties, that's why I never buy them.

Best Buy is a joke, ever try to get someone to help you there...its like the Fry cook rejects from McDonalds. They have no clue and try to avoid helping . I hope you stick it to them.
