Maybe that's because they think that being psychic automatically equals being a witch or something. I know some types of Christians who have that kind of thinking but I also know that Catholic exorcists often make use of psychics to detect demonic influence and stuff.

There's a difference between prophecy and psyhics. Prophets were contacted by G-d, knew G-d and spoke for G-d to people on earth. They are followers of G-d.
Psychics on the other hand are spoken about by G-d as not being of G-d. They depend on their own powers to forsee the future. Prophets were chosen by G-d, it was not an inate gift.
There is also a belief that when Israel is dispersed that there can be no prophets. Some Christians also believe that the prophetic age ended with Revelation. There are Christians, such as Catholics, who believe that G-d still reveals himself in this world and that there can be prophecy.
The big difference comes from the meaning of the words, prophet and psychic. That is the difference you are seeing in both bibical times and modren.

trittles, what you call psychic, I have learned is really the occult. When God spoke to people, his revelation was consistent and dealt with redemption.
everyone I know who started playing with psychic stuff got into deeper occultism eventually.
the way God speaks to people today is primarily through his word. all other "revelation" is compared by the truth in the Gospel.
I highly recommend that you flee from any occultic gateways; it only leads to deception and eventually bondage.
Christ has come to set us free. Turn to Christ and receive the Holy Spirit.

you don't need to be psychic. God talks to us thru the bible. If you hear a little voice talking to you, that might be a different spirit that came from the enemy.

I really fail fail to see the connection between the bible and psychics ... And really tend to doubt the first one more than you might think.

Because some of us are stubborn and willfully ignorant, unfortunately.
I actually still accept the hypothetical existence of the Tooth Fairy myself. Things like the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus I know where those traditions started, but I don't know where the Tooth Fairy story came from. It's probably out there, and someone reading this post will cite me a reference and shatter my childlike faith.
