First of all did the car run when you bought it? I have a 94 Volvo 960 and it has coil packs, not a distibutor. If I were you I would check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. If the pressure is low, replace the fuel filter. If this doesnt work the next step is to replace the fuel pump.Assuming you checked the fuel pressure and its ok, lets go back to the distributor. If the disributor, the rotor under neathit, the spark plugs and the spark plug wires are ok, it might be a timing belt.

Start with checking the fuses and relays for the fuel pump. Is the fuel pump working(humming when the key in the ignition is turned on)? Check your plugs and wires, cap and rotor. The cap could have a crack in it.

some time you can have a bad coil check the side of it and see if there is evidence of sparking around it usually on the side of the strut tower

If you are getting no spark at all, it is probably the ignition coil.
