YES...As a Gunsmith I can tell you ANY shotgun chambered for 410 gauge 3" shells will chamber and fire 2 1/2" shells safely, even Rifled Slugs and #00 Buckshot

Elkslayer is making sense, have it checked out by a gunsmith or at the very least, by someone who shoots shotguns.
Most old 410's have neglected bores that could render them unsafe.
No problem with using the shorter shells, just don't expect too much from them in the way of performance!

Yes, you can safely shoot 2-1/2 inch shells. You can shoot any shell up to 3".
410 is a fun caliber. wish you lots of fun.

Yes, you can always fire the short shell in the long chamber, but not the long shell in the short chamber.
