When I get a craving for something - like when my parents have my favorite dinner knowing I can't eat it - I will get an apple or a cup of grapes or a glass of crystal light. It doesn't really make me want the food less, but it makes you less hungry so you might not think about it as much. If the rubber band thing works for you, then go for it =]

What are the cravings for?
Is it aggravated by the monthly cycles?
Sweet stuff? Salty stuff?
When you are going through something like that, it usually means that your diet is deficient in essential nutrients.

For example, someone craving yeasty stuff like beer or sourdough bread, is really craving B-vitamins, particularly B-6.
Cravings for ice-cream could mean you need more calcium.
Cravings for sweets could very well mean that you need to boost your intake of Chromium Picolinate to help balance out pancreatic function.
Cravings for salads or other salty things tend to indicate the need for more electrolytes: potassium and sodium.
Cravings for eggs or cranberries usually means a sulfur deficit... common in people who had their tonsils out, since the tonsils are the only repository for sulfur in the body.
These are just a few things off the top of my head.
