Mormons are taught to be self supportive, to work hard and provide a living for their family. While Mormons have one of the best "welfare systems" in the world that many come to observe and pattern their own welfare programs after, Mormons are encouraged to be self supporting.
With that said, Mormons including their minsters work at to support themselves and their families. Tithing is a commandment found in the Old Testament and is followed by Mormons. Ten percent of your increase is paid as tithing. If a member was to pay more, that would be up to the member but it is not required.
I would suppose that an "extra" tithe payer would get "extra" blessings, as long as they are not violating the need to support themselves and their families.

Not at all. You can't pay "extra" tithing. The Lord asks for ten percent and not a penny more.
I usually don't expect blessings anyway...but they do come every single time.

No, they don't. Tithing is not even required, it's suggested. Poor members are not at all expected to pay for anything they cannot afford. If a wealthy Mormon wants to pay more, they are welcome to, it's not like the church verifies your income or anything. Tithing pays for bills and to build new churches and temples.

Never really thought about it... I do try and pay as much fast offerings as I can but usually only stick to the 10% of my increase.
Tithing is a principle of obedience I think, it's of course used for building church houses and temples and whatever, but really I think the Lord gives us commandments to see if we will obey them.

We only pay 10% of our total income, and no more!
And thanks for asking so many questions about our Church! We really appreciate you helping to spread our word!
Keep those questions coming in, so people can check it out all the links for themselves!
We thank all the others, as well!
